Update on Asuka – Asuka may be finally set for an in-ring comeback in the near future after spending nearly a full year on the sidelines due to a knee injury that required surgery in 2024.
The former Women’s Champion and Grand Slam winner has not appeared on RAW or SmackDown since her last televised match at WWE Backlash France on May 4, 2024. On that night, Asuka and Kairi Sane dropped the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles to Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill, ending their reign as champions. It was later revealed that Asuka had been dealing with a lingering knee injury and underwent surgery shortly after the event.
While WWE has yet to officially confirm a return date, multiple reports and the expected recovery timetable suggest that Asuka’s return could take place sometime in May 2025. Her comeback is likely to happen after the upcoming WWE Backlash premium live event on May 10. WWE is reportedly taking a cautious approach with her rehabilitation process.
It was also reported earlier this year that creative pitches were made for Asuka’s return, including a possible tag team match, though those plans were not moved forward at the time. The report added that discussions were active within WWE’s creative team in anticipation of her eventual clearance.
Adding fuel to the speculation, Asuka’s name was briefly visible on an early draft of the WrestleMania 41 card in promotional footage for the upcoming Netflix series WWE Unreal, which offers a behind-the-scenes look at the company’s creative process. Although she was not ultimately booked for the event, her inclusion in that early draft supports the belief that WWE anticipates her return soon.
Asuka remains listed on the RAW roster and is still affiliated with the Damage CTRL faction, though the group has faced setbacks with injuries to both Dakota Kai and Kairi Sane over the past year. Earlier in 2025, Asuka also addressed concerns about her safety, speaking out about troubling fan behavior and confirming that WWE and TKO were taking measures to protect her.
With the women’s division continuing to evolve, anticipation is growing for Asuka’s return to television. Fans of the “Empress of Tomorrow” are hopeful that her reported May return window proves accurate and that her comeback brings fresh energy to the RAW brand.
