Liv Morgan Lands Major Role in ‘Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo’ – WWE Superstar Liv Morgan is returning to the silver screen in a major way, having been cast in Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo, an upcoming thriller from Neon Pictures. The casting news, first reported by Deadline, places Morgan in a significant role alongside established Hollywood star Lily James.
Directed by iconic Japanese filmmaker Takeshi Miike — known for his distinct, often edgy cinematic style — the film is shaping up to be a gritty crime drama with international flair. Miike’s filmography includes cult classics such as Audition and 13 Assassins, and Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo marks his first high-profile English-language project in years.
In the film, Japanese actor Shun Oguri will portray a morally compromised Tokyo Metropolitan Police officer who becomes entangled in a dangerous, high-stakes case. Lily James stars as an enigmatic FBI agent dispatched to Tokyo to uncover the whereabouts of a missing politician’s daughter — the role being played by Morgan. The plot thickens as their search brings them into the orbit of a yakuza-connected killer, promising a suspenseful and intense thriller.
Production is scheduled to begin in Japan within the next week, with Neon — the distributor behind the Oscar-winning Anora — backing the project. Expectations are high for the film, given Miike’s pedigree and the momentum Neon has coming off their latest critical success.
This marks a significant step forward in Liv Morgan’s acting career. Having made a brief but notable appearance in The Kill Room (2023), Morgan’s casting in Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo has already sparked industry buzz. Insiders see this role as her breakout opportunity in Hollywood, with some suggesting it could position her as the industry’s next breakout star.
During a backstage segment on 4/28 episode of RAW, acting RAW General Manager Nick Aldis granted Morgan an official leave of absence to pursue the opportunity.
