Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful reported that Matt Hardy is a free agent.
This comes after Hardy had been talking about weighing his options regarding his future with his AEW deal, which expired in March. The report noted that technically, as of now, he’s no longer with AEW.
The word going around the promotion was that AEW extended the deal for a few weeks through WrestleMania, although no reason was given. It should be noted that the two sides have had talks, and Hardy decided to allow his deal to lapse.
It’s unclear whether WWE or another promotion would be interested in picking him up as a wrestler. Either way, he’s in great shape.
Hardy portrayed the Broken gimmick when he first debuted in the company with the gimmick back in March 2020. He was used as a tag team star in the promotion and teamed with his brother once Jeff Hardy joined All Elite Wrestling.
