Joe Gacy has wound up in Shawn Spears’ crosshairs in recent weeks, as he has been lurking in the background near Spears. Gacy cost Spears his match against Dijak on the March 26 episode of NXT. Spears got some revenge by attacking Gacy with a chair ahead of his match with Oba Femi on the April 2 episode of NXT. The referee then called off the match and ruled that it was a no-contest.
Later in the show, Gacy told NXT General Manager Ava that he wanted to face Spears at NXT Stand & Deliver, and she booked the match.
