Eric Bischoff Talks The Rock’s Heel Turn, AEW Dynamite: Big Business – Eric Bischoff recently shared his candid thoughts on The Rock’s latest heel turn in WWE during an episode of his Strictly Business podcast. While discussing The Rock’s decision to join The Bloodline and align with Roman Reigns, the Hall of Famer and former WCW President expressed some skepticism.
Bischoff’s initial reaction to The Rock’s heel turn was less than enthusiastic, as he admitted to feeling somewhat hesitant about the development. However, he acknowledged The Rock’s unparalleled talent and acknowledged that if this is the direction Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has chosen, he would give him the benefit of the doubt and see where it leads.
“Let’s see how it plays out. I’m having a hard time. My visceral reaction is: ew, why? No. But, look, he’s an amazing performer and if that’s what Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has decided that’s what he wants to do, then I would definitely give him the benefit of the doubt. Let’s see where it goes.”
Shifting gears, Bischoff also offered his insights on the upcoming AEW Big Business event, speculating on the potential impact of Mercedes Moné’s debut. While acknowledging Moné’s sizable fanbase and the likely boost her presence will bring to the event, Bischoff tempered expectations regarding viewership numbers. He suggested that while there may be a slight increase, breaking a million viewers might be a stretch, especially considering the competition from other programming. Nonetheless, Bischoff noted that exceeding 800,000 viewers would still be considered a success in today’s television landscape.
“You know, you may see a bump, I’m sure. She’s got a lot of fans out there. So yeah, she’ll get a bump. Do I think it will break a million? They may not get 900, which is a win. And in today’s environment, anything over seven, or anything over 800, is, you know, cause for celebration, I guess. So little better than that, depending on what they’re up against. But you know, basketball right now doesn’t matter. It’s like, and it’s early season, basketball doesn’t start mattering until later on in the season. So, depending on what they’re up against, 875, maybe 880, somewhere near there. And it’ll go right back down to whatever it’s been. Within three weeks. That’d be it.”
