Nonetheless, some within AEW advocated for the storyline, pointing out the undefeated streak of Sting and Allin as a tag team and the logical progression towards a title challenge. Despite his reservations, Sting was reportedly all smiles following the triumph, marking his first championship win since 2011.
Following their title win, Sting and Allin found themselves on the receiving end of an attack by the Young Bucks, with the executive vice presidents aiming to generate heat in anticipation of Sting’s retirement match against them at Revolution. It’s worth noting that Sting played a significant role in selecting the Bucks as his final opponents, adding personal stakes to the impending showdown.
