Alex Shelley Talks Current Title Reign, Kazuchika Okada in TNA, More – After securing a significant win against “The Walking Weapon” Josh Alexander at Bound For Glory and successfully defending the title in November against Jonathan Gresham, Alex Shelley stands as the final World Champion of the IMPACT Wrestling era. As TNA Wrestling enters a new era, Shelley is poised to become its inaugural World Champion, marking a significant transition in the promotion’s history.
In a discussion with Pro Wrestling Culture, Shelley delved into various aspects of his championship reign, reflecting on the narrative of MCMG alongside Chris Sabin and the evolution of TIME SPLITTERS with KUSHIDA. He highlighted the contrasts between these tag team experiences, emphasizing their distinct dynamics. However, the focal point of the conversation revolved around his imminent title defense against Moose at Hard to Kill.
About his current title reign
“Getting to that point is an accomplishment because i don’t really thing i’m supposed to be a World Champion and certainly people didn’t tag me as a World Champion when i come 20 years ago. I appreciate my defences so far, but my favourite was against Jonathan Gresham, it was very different to the other matches and our product, the TNA product or IMPACT product whenever you wanna call it, is totally different. Against Hiroshi Tanahashi was too. He was my mentor, my trainer, it was a twenty minutes battle and epic title match and it was for the TNA prize itself.”
The return of Kazuchika Okada in TNA
“I think The Young Bucks is the greatest tag team of all time. I wrestle them everywhere in PWG, ROH, TNA with MCMG and with Time Splitters in NJPW and ROH as well. I loved the matches against Beer Money but i’m looking forward for the 3 vs 3 with Kazuchika (Okada) at Snake Eyes because it means a lot for me. Over ten years ago i saw how special he was, i told it to everybody in TNA, somebody listened, some people didn’t but i was right about him.”
Chris Sabin and KUSHIDA
“KUSHIDA is a very very good grappler, he knows jojytsu, he knows everything about Fighting. Sabin is a traditional pro wrestler and he have all the experience that you need in a wrestling ring. 20 Years ago Sabin was X-Division Champion, he is the face of X-Division and he is the X-Division Champion now. Incredible.”
