ROH Final Battle Event Features Nine Confirmed Matches

ROH Final Battle 2023 Results – Our announcers are Ian Riccaboni and Caprice Coleman.  They ran down the lineup. They aired a video feature on Athena vs. Billie Starkz.

Zero Hour Pre-Show

Jasmin Allure vs. Taya Valkyrie with Johnny TV

They did the Code of Honor at the bell but Taya kicked her right into the corner and stomped away.  She controlled Allure an worked her over in the corner with chops.  Allure came back with a forearm and went for a wheel barrow takedown but was maneuvered into the ropes and drilled across the lower back.  Taya nailed a sliding German suplex and drilled Allure’s face into the mat.

Taya nailed several clotheslines in the corner.  She drilled her in the corner with a Meteora for a two count.  Taya worked over Allure’s arm but was caught with a series of elbows.  Allure nailed a series of forearms and a superkick.  She went to the top but was caught.  Taya nailed a superplex.  She followed up with a double underhook suplex.  Taya nailed the curb stomp and scored the pin.

They aired a piece on Keith Lee vs. Shane Taylor.

Marshall and Ross Von Erich vs. The Outrunners

It was all Von Erichs early.  The Outrunners caught Ross Von Erich and worked him over.  The crowd was very receptive to the Von Erichs.  Ross kept fighting out and going for the tag but was cut off.  He nailed a double mule kick to take in Marshall.  He cleaned house.  He avoided a double team and one of the Outrunners monkey flipped the other.  The Von Erichs nailed a double hip toss on one and drilled the other with a double dropkick.  They then did stereo claws.  The crowd loved it.

Kevin Von Erich came out to celebrae with his sons and looked SO happy to be there.

They aired a video on the ROH TV Championship Survival of the Fittest bout tonight.

Bryan Keith vs. Jack Cartwheel – Winner Advances to Survival of the Fittest

Big reaction for Keith, who has worked here locally for years.

Some super fun back and forth action early on.  Cartwheel nailed a moonsault for a two count.  Crowd really enjoyed all the cartwheels as it’s a good gimmick.  He was flashy but Keith was all physical shots.  This was very much the spirit of early ROH with two talented performers showing what they had.  Cartwheel nailed a cartwheel into a Dragon Screw Legwhip.  You can’t say he isn’t creative.  

Keith tossed him out but Cartwheel landed on the apron and drilled him with a kick into the ring, scoring a near fall after a leaping elbow.  Cartwheel nailed a powerslam and carthweeled to his feet before trying to score a pin.  He was going to the top but Keith grabbed his leg.  Cartwheel kicked him and went to the top but Keith sat up and met him.  They battled back and forth with some truly fun action.  Inspired wrestling.

Keith was went to the floor.  Cartwheel nailed a great springboard twisting dive to the floor that elicited ROH chants.  Back in the ring, Keith nailed an enzigiuri.  He drilled Cartwheel with a big knee strike and a Tiger Driver for the pin.

They aired a video piece on the Fight to Honor Jay Briscoe.

Tony Khan came out and talked about some of Jay Briscoe’s major moments at past Final Battle events.  This was the site of Briscoe’s last Final Battle appearance and Khan thanked everyone for being part of the legacy.  He pushed the show and told everyone they wouldn’t want to miss the PPV.

Daniel Garcia vs. Blake Christian.

They locked up and ended up in the ropes, breaking clean.  They locked up again and ended up in the corner with Christian slapping Garcia.  Garcia drilled him with a back elbow.  They battled back and forth with forearms.  Garcia nailed a double underhook suplex.  Garcia drilled him with kicks but Christian kept fighting back.  He nailed a kick tto the face in the corner, then nailed a handspring into a wheelbarrow for a two count.   Blake peppered Garcia with forearms.  Garcia fought back with some brutal looking strikes.

He nailed a suplex into the corner.  Christian was placed atop the ropes and hung from the tree of woe.    Garcia nailed a big skateboard dropkick in the corner.  They battled back and forth.  Christian took him out and nailed a 619 in the ropes for a two count.  They went back and forth with some great sequences and are really working their asses off.

Christian went for a springboard 450 legdrop but Garcia snatched the leg and locked on an anklelock.  He rolled through and Garcia was sent to the floor.  Christian nailed a big dive to the floor.  He tossed Garcia in and nailed the springboard 450 splash for a close two count.  They battled back and forth until Garcia caught him in a Sharpshooter variation and scored the submission.

Backstage, ROH Champion Eddie Kingston wanted to fight tonight.  Anthony Henry came out and challenged him to a Proving Ground match.  Tony Khan made it official.

They ran down the lineup.

ROH Final Battle 2023 Results

AAA Mega Champion Hijo del Vikingo vs. Black Taurus.

Lots of fast action early on,  Taurus was sent to the floor.    Vikingo went for a dive but was caught and powerbombed hard on the floor.  Taurus pressed and slammed Vikingo back into the ring and mauled him.  Vikingo was worked over and powered backwards over the top to the floor.  Taurus nailed a twisting dive that looked great.

Taurus nailed a Crucifix Driver and a Samoan Drop for a two count.  All strong lucha work so far.  He went to the top but missed a twisting moonsault.  Vikingo recovered and nailed a kick to the face.  He followed up with a leaping kick in the corner.  He went to the top and nailed a shooting star press into a hurancanrana, then nailed an elbow.  He hit a springboard flip dive.  They battled to the top, where Vikingo nailed a leaping rana.  Taurus rolled to the outside.  

They continued to do insane things to each other.  They battled to the top, where Taurus hit a standing press slam down into the ring.    Vikingo came the back with a moonsault into a driver.  They began chopping the hell out of each other.    Vikingo sent Taurus to the floor.  Vikingo nailed a springboard 720 to the floor.    Taurus knocked him off the ropes and nailed a series of powerbombs across the knee and a lariat for a close two count.  Vikingo reversed a backbreaker into a crucifix bomb.  Vikingo drilled him with a 630 splash from the top and scored the pin.

ROH Six Man Tag Team Champions The Gates of Agony & Brian Cage vs. The Mighty Don’t Kneel’s Bad Dude Tito & Kosei Fujita & Shane Haste

Everyone worked their asses off here.  Bad Dude Tito was especially trying to impress.  Kaun and Tito traded chops.  Tito nailed a head and arms Tazplex for a to count.  Haste shined early on as wel.. TMDK all tagged in and out and looked good, working over Kaun.  Kaun finally lariated the hell out of Fujita and Cag tagged in.  He drilled Fujita with some nice forearms and hit a big press slam for a near fall.  He nailed a rude Saito suplex for a two count then tossed Fujita across the ring.  Fujita tried to fight from underneath but it didn’t work out.  Fujita finally nailed a suplex to escape

Tito looked good, including hitting a bodypress off the top on Liona.  I guess it was that Wipeout experience that helped with the dive. They worked over Cage and then Liona.   Liona came back for a nice spear for a two count.  Tito scored a DVDR on Cage.    Fujita hit a nice springboard dropkick on Kaun.  You can see the NJPW run has helped the Gates of Agony as their timing was awesome.  Fujita and Kaun drilled each other with forearms.  Kaun exploded with a great shotgun dropkick.  Cage nailed the deadlift suplex on Fujita but Bad Dude Tito made the save.  Cage hit the pumphandle, drilling Tito.

Fujita was left trying to defend himself against all three but was wiped out.  Cage murdered him with a sit-out powerbomb for the pin.

I QUIT: Ethan Page vs. Tony Nese

Mark Sterling is handcuffed to the ringpost.  He refused so Mark Henry came out and helped.  Big pop for Mark, who’s originally a Texas boy!

Page looked super strong early with some explosive offense.  Nese went to the floor.      Sterling distracted Page, allowing Nese to hit a dive on him and stomp away.  Nese worked him over and told Page to be like all the fans, quit.  Page refused.  He was busted open.   Nese looked for the key to free Sterling but Page followed and drilled him with right hands.

Nese regained control and whipped Page with a wire.  Page fired back and Nese teased quitting but instead drlled him.  Nese nailed the Fosbury Flop to the outside.  Nese set up a pair of tables on the floor.  Page nailed him and placed Nese on the tables.  He went to the top but Sterling distracted him, allowing Nese to nail him.  Page fought him off and nailed a stunner across the ropes.  Page leapt up and snatched him in an Ace Crusher through the tables.  Nese refused to quit.

Several chairs were set in the ring.  Nese nailed a rana off the top but Page landed over the chairs and missed them.  Page refued to quit.  Nese grabbed ring announcer Bobby Cruise and made him give up the key to the cuffs.  He shoved down a referee.  Where’s Mark Henry when you need him?  Sterling was freed.  They put the boots to Page and said they were going to crack him with a 45 lb. barbell plate and send the footage to his daughter.  Scorpio Sky, with music, hit the scene and made the save, hitting Sterling.  Page nailed Nese, who fell with his fingers under the plate.  Page stomped it and nailed a DDT.  Sterling rolled into the ring and was nailed.  Sky dragged Sterling out.

Page went for Ego’s Edge but Nese slipped out and nailed him with a chair.  He cuffed Page.  He told Page to quit or he was going to drill him in the head.  Page said, “F*** You.”  Nese swung and missed and Page kicked him and took him down with a big backdrop.  The referee freed Page.  He unloaded with right hands.    Page choked him out with the cuffs and Nese quit.

This was the best match Nese has been given the opportunity to have in a long time and made the most of the opportunity.  Page did well as a babyface and the crowd was into the story every step of the way.   Good stuff.

Nyla Rose vs. Vert Vixen

Rose worked her over early and nailed some big Beal Tosses.  Vixen escaped a powerbomb but was drilled with some hard shots.  Rose got the oj  with a Beast Bomb.  Short but competitive.

Survival of the Fittest to crown new ROH TV Champion: Dalton Castle (with The Boys) vs. Lee Moriarty vs. Kyle Fletcher vs. Lee Johnson vs. Komander vs. Bryan Keith 

A lot of good wrestling here.   A TON of big dives including Komander walking the ropes and then diving over Kyle Fletcher (who was on the top) to the floor on everyone.   Lee Moriarty forced Lee Johnson to submit.  He then nailed his Flatliner variation on Castle for the pin.   Johnny TV had interfered an laiud out the boys.  They built to a big Tower of Doom spot.  Moriarty worked over Bryan Keith who came back with a eniziguiru.  Keith nailed Moriarty with a Tiger Driver and pinned him.  Kyle Fletcher pounced and attacked Keith, who came back with a suplex.  Keith went for a Tiger Driver but was caught and turned into a hammerlock tombstone and pinned.

Fletcher and Komander battled back and forth with strikes and kicked.  Komander nailed a dropkick and hit a springboard into a Poisonrana, sending Fletcher to the outside.  He went for a dive but was caught.  Fletcher nailed a tombstone on the outside.  The referee began to count Komander out.  He made it back in right before the 20 count but ate a big boot to the face.  Fletcher nailed a brainbuster for a near fall.  They battled back and forth.  Komander did the rope walk into a 450 splash on the apron, which looked insane.   He nailed another 450 splash for a two count.  Fletcher attacked his leg and nailed a brainbuster onto the buckles but Komander kicked out to a big pop.

Fletcher finally scored the pin with the Hammerlock tombstone.

ROH Pure Champion Wheeler Yuta vs. Tom Lawlor

Lots of grappling early.  Yuta had to use a rope break early to escape a move.  He nailed a dropkick asnd attacked Lawlor, scoring several two counts.  Yuta worked over Lawlor, who used a rope break.  Yuta attacked the leg and then chopped away at him.  Lawlor responded in kind.  Very physical.  Yuta used a Dragon Screw Legwhip and cinches in an Octopus on the mat.  Lawlor tried to fight back to his feet but was then caught in an abdominal stretch and pulled back for a two count.  Good stuff so far, different from everything else on the show.

Lawlor hit a back suplex but was too spent to initially capitalize.  Lawlor went for a knee strike but Yuta ducked and rolled him up.  Yuta turned it into a one-legged Boston Crab.    Lawlor fought out and hit a hammerlock piledriver.  He cinches on a double wristlock.  Yuta used his second rope break to escape.  He has one left.  He punched Lawlor and was issued a warning.

Yuta went to the top but Lawlor drilled him.   They battled on top.  Lawlor used a hammerlock superplex and cinched on a wristlock.  Yuta used the third and final rope break.  Yuta was locked in an armbar but fought out.  Yuta was locked in a double wrist lock and cinched in a chicken wing. Yuta escaped and surprised Lawlor in a pinning combination for the pin.  Lawlor’s foot hit the rope at the three count, but the referee didn’t seem to see it.

Yuta attacked Lawlor after and was going to DDT him on the belt but Hook, to a big pop, came out.   He checked on Lawlor.  Yuta attacked him from behind and nailed a DDT.

Keith Lee vs. Shane Taylor

Lots of testing each other out.  They went into a test of strength early with neither man getting the advantage.  Lee backed Shane into the corner and drilled him with some hard chops.  He charged but Taylor sent him out to the apron.  Lee came back and hit a high cross bodyblock into the ring.  Shades of Bam Bam Bigelow.  He went for another but was caught with The Tower of London.  Taylor nailed a legdrop across Lee’s throat on the apron.

Lee fired back with a series of knees to the mid-section.  Taylor struck back with hard rights, scoring a near fall.  They fired back and forth with hard strikes.  Lee drilled Taylor in the corner.  He teased a spear but Taylor moved.  They slugged it out.  Taylor scored with an enziguiri and a big splash for a two count.  Taylor drilled him with lots of hard shots across the back.  Lee fired back and nailed a series of clotheslines.  

Lee regained control and teased a moonsault but Le Moriarty distracted him.  Lee tossed him into the ring and hit a sit-out powerbomb.  Taylor drilled Lee from behind and scored a two count.  Taylor went to the ropes but was caught on top.  Taylor nailed a Canadian Destroyer off the top but Lee kicked out.  The battle continued until Lee nailed a bg DVDR variation for the pin.

They showed each other respect after the bout.

Backstage, Bryan Keith said he was here to win gold.  Orange Cassidy offered to face him tomorrow at Collision.

Mark Briscoe & FTR vs. The Blackpool Combat Club

Dax Harwood and Jon Moxley started out.  Claudio tagged in and they battled back and forth with some nice exchanges.  Cash tagged in but was caught in BCC’s corner and they worked him over as they tagged in and out.  This is Bryan Danielson’s first ROH match in 15 years.  Cash and Claudio fired back and forth with foreams.  Briscoe tagged in and stomped away at Claudio.  Dax tagged in but Claudio avoided a charge in the corner, leaving Dax to crash shoulder-first into the ring post.

Dax was worked over for a long time.  Claudio spun him in the Big Swing.  Dax finally fought his way out and made the hot tag to Briscoe, who battled off BCC with Redneck Kung-Fu.  He nailed Danielson with the uranage suplex.  FTR double-teamed Danielson with an elevated neckbreaker for a two count.  Everyone battled.  They went into an fun series of fast paced moves followed by more moves, leaving everyone laid out as the crowd chanted for ROH.  They all recovered and began slugging it out in the ring at the same time to a big pop.

Claudio nailed The Neutralizer on Briscoe, who kicked up.  Mark battled back and went for the Jay-Driller but was swarmed by BCC, who stomped and beat the hell out of him.  They set up Briscoe for The Doomsday Device but FTR made the save.  Everyone battled all over ringside.  Everyone kept brawling and they were all counted out.

The crowd hated this and chanted “Let them fight” as rhe officials and security tried to break it up.  They were about to rule is a double countout when Mark Briscoe said No and said this was a match to honor Jay, so let’s restart the match with Anything Goes.  Tony Khan sent word that he agrees and there now must be a winner.  The crowd popped.  Everyone brawled all over the arena including the crowd.  Mark was now bleeding.  Mark hit a running flip dive off a cjaor to the floor on Claudio.

A table was pulled out from under the ring.  Mark pulled a barbed wire covered ladder out from the back and nailed Claudio.   Moxley used a fork on Dax.   Mark nailed Claudio with a chair.  He placed Claudio atop the barbed wire ladder.  Mark went to the top for the Froggy Bow but Moxley attacked and shoved him off and Mark crashed atop the barbed wire ladder.

In the ring, Moxley smashed Dax across the back with a chair, then hit him with a curb stomp.  He began using the fork on Cash, who was now bleeding.  Moxley drilled Dax with a chair across the back.  The BBC beat FTR with the chairs.  Cash was bleeding pretty heavy.  Moxley locked Mark in the choke.  The crowd chanted “Man Up.”  Lots of carnage and chaos.  Amazingly, Moxley isn’t bleeding.  A series of stairs were tossed into the ring.  Team Briscoe battled back.

Dax hit a piledriver off the apron through a table covered in tacks on Mox.  Danielson worked over Briscoe, screaming at him that this isn’t his night as he kicked him in the chest.  Briscoe kept absorbing and but ducked the flying knee.  He nailed the Jay-Driller on the chairs and pinned Bryan Danielson.

This was chaos, brawling and blood in the latter stages but the early part was a great, physical six man war.    I think Jay Briscoe would have loved this and to me, that’s all that matters here.

ROH Champion Eddie Kingston vs. Anthony Henry – Proving Ground Match

Kingston was in control early but Henry drilled him on the floor and nailed several hip attacks, one on the floor and one in the ring, scoring several near falls.  He attacked Kingston’s neck.  Kingston made a comeback and they battled with chops in the center.  Kingston nailed a lariat and the Kobashi chops.  Henry battled back with a back suplex for a two count.  Pockets of the crowd chanted for Kingston.

Henry nailed a series of Kawada kicks.  Henry is really trying to make the most of this match based on his work.  He nailed a piledriver for a close near fall.  He went to the top but missed a double stomp.  Kingston nailed him with a spinning backfist and locked in a Stretch Plum, tapping Henry out.

As he left, Daniel Garcia came out on the stage as he’s facing Kingston on Collision.

ROH Women’s Champion Athena vs. Billie Starkz

Athena was wearing a mask to protect her broken nose and got a massive reaction since she’s in her hometown of Garland, Texas.

Billie attacked Athena with her own forearm variation and hit a head scissors takedown.  Athena was down in the corner and pulled herself up.  The crowd chanted “Women’s Wrestling.”

Billie kicked Athena out of the ring to the floor and nailed a tope.  Athena fought back and sent her into the guard rails several times.    She worked over Billie driving her into the guard rail face-first over and over.  Starkz was bleeding.  Athena worked her over back in the ring with some big forearms in the corner.  She sent Billie back to the mat in the center and drilled her with a knee.

Athena ripped at her face and nose before drilling her across the chest with a hard forearm smash.  Billie used a rollup for a two count but Athena began beating her down across the back over and over again, exerting her dominance.  Athena continued to maul her but Starkz battled back with forearms outside on the apron before being drilled.  Athena rolled her back into the ring for another two count.

Athena drilled her with kicks to the back.  The crowd began dueling chants.  Athena was caught with a suplex for a two count.  They exchanged rollups.  Billie nailed a Dragon Suplex for a two count.  Athena nailed a headbutt but hurt her own broken nose with the move.  Starkz exploded and attacked her with shots to the face, going for the nose.  Billie drilled her with a knee to the face and a spinning kick.  

Billie went to the ropes but Athena rolled out of the way.  Billie went to the other corner and nailed a swanton for a close two count.   Athena went to the floor.  Billie nailed a dive.  Athena was thrown hard into the guard rail.  Billie charged but Athena moved, so she crashed into the rail.  Athena nailed a shotgun style dropkick into the barricade and then began preparing the announcers’ table for destruction.  She told Billie she would never have what is hers and then tried for a suplex on the table.  Billie batled back and suplexed her off the table to the floor.  

Starkz worked her over and sent Athena back into the ring.  Athena rolled back out so Billie followed and tossed Athena into the crowd.  Billie followed but was caught and sent into the railing.  They ended up atop the railing, where Athena jumped off and drilled her into the ground.  The challenger was tossed back into the ring.

Athena nailed an elevated German suplex off the ropes but Billie kicked up.  Athena was furious.   The crowd chanted “Fight Forever.”  Starkz kicked Athena off, knocking her into the referee, who was out.  Athena hit the Bayonet but there was no referee.  Athena called for Lexy Nair to bring her the title belt.  Lexy was cautious but finally did.  Athena took the belt but Billie dropkicked it into her.  Billie nailed a piledriver but Athena kicked out at the last second.

They continued to battle back and forth.  Athena went to the top but Starkz got under her on the apron and lifted her on her shoulders, nailing an Electric Chair Driver outside on the apron.  Starkz went for a swanton but missed.  Athena nailed a big KO shot but was too beaten down to make the cover.  The crowd chanted for ROH.  They battled with kicks and chops.  Athena nailed Despicable Knee but Billie kicked out.  Athena nailed a series of kicks and went to the top.  She went for the O-Face but Billie countered with an O’Connor Roll.  She was kicked off but on the rebound, nailed Athena.  They went back and forth.  Athena went for Starkz’s finishing move, but it was blocked.  Athena locked Billie in a submission and trapped, Billie finally submitted.

They faced off after the bout but finally embraced and Athena raised Billle’s arm.
