
LA Knight Receives Key to the City of Hagerstown, MD – In his hometown on Saturday, WWE star LA Knight was presented with the key to the city.
A ceremony honoring Knight (real name Shaun Ricker) took place at University Plaza in Hagerstown, Maryland on Saturday afternoon. The Hagerstown Herald-Mail reports that hundreds of people attended the ceremony.
Knight gave a speech to the crowd, recounting the times he struggled in life and urging everyone to follow their dreams.
“I expected 10 people to show up,” Knight joked. “And all of you, Hagerstown, you showed up and you showed out. And I can’t say anything more than – thank you. This is a crazy, crazy honor. Thank you to the mayor. Thank you to the city councilman for putting this one together.”
Knight said receiving the key to the city is a full-circle moment for him. Knight told the crowd he loves them and thanked Hagerstown for being his home.
The ceremony happened while Knight is home in Hagerstown for the holidays. Full video of the ceremony can be seen below:
The 41-year-old Knight has become one of WWE’s top stars over the last year. At Crown Jewel in November, he unsuccessfully challenged Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.
Knight is set to compete in a number one contender’s match at SmackDown New Year’s Revolution on Friday, January 5. It will be Knight vs. Randy Orton vs. AJ Styles to determine Reigns’ challenger for the Royal Rumble.
