Big News on Karrion Kross and The Authors of Pain – It looks like WWE is building anticipation for the return of The Authors of Pain, potentially aligning them with Karrion Kross and Scarlett. During a Kross & Scarlett vignette on tonight’s SmackDown, a suggestive image featuring Akam, Rezar, and Paul Ellering in silhouette appeared, hinting at their comeback. Kross’s use of the term “Authors” in the promo strongly implies their return and a potential alliance with Kross & Scarlett.
Reports from PWInsider.com suggest that The Authors of Pain, along with Paul Ellering, are slated to make their official return to WWE television on the SmackDown: New Year’s Revolution episode airing on January 5, 2024, which will broadcast on FOX. Following their comeback on this episode, the trio is expected to feature regularly on WWE programming going forward.
Akam & Rezar previously held accolades as former NXT Tag Team Champions, winners of the 2016 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic in NXT, and former Raw Tag Team Champions. Their initial NXT run with manager Paul Ellering positioned them as a dominant, powerhouse tag team reminiscent of the Road Warriors.
After their main roster debut in April 2018, where Ellering was replaced by Drake Maverick as manager, they enjoyed a Raw Tag Team title reign and aligned with Seth Rollins before being sidelined due to Akam’s injury in March 2020. Subsequently, both were released from their contracts in September 2020.
Earlier reports from Fightful indicated Akam & Rezar’s re-signing with WWE as early as 2022, with travel plans set in motion by May 2023. Furthermore, early this week they also reported that the group’s return to WWE television was on the horizon. This return could mark an exciting development in WWE’s programming and potentially bring a new dynamic to the roster.
