Athena Reflects on One-Year Reign as ROH Women's Champion

Athena Reflects on One-Year Reign as ROH Women’s Champion – Athena’s reign as the ROH Women’s Champion reached a significant milestone, hitting the one-year mark since her victory over Mercedes Martinez at ROH Final Battle 2022 on December 10, 2022.

During her tenure, she defended the title a remarkable seventeen times, showcasing her dominance in the ring. Notably, Athena made history by headlining an ROH pay-per-view event against Willow Nightingale at ROH Death Before Dishonor, elevating the prominence of women’s wrestling in the promotion.

Her upcoming title defense against Billie Starkz at ROH Final Battle 2023 adds anticipation to her already impressive legacy as champion. As noted, the self-proclaimed “Forever ROH Champ” revealed that she broke her nose during AEW’s recent television tapings in Canada. Despite this setback, the scheduled match is proceeding as planned.

Taking to social media, Athena expressed gratitude to her supporters and acknowledged the constructive influence of critics. She credited Tony Khan for the platform provided, allowing her to authentically express herself. Looking ahead, Athena aims to solidify her status by striving to become the first triple crown champion in 2024.

She wrote: “1 year as champion 1 year of must see violence 1 year of me! Thank you to the my fans that believed in me and the trolls that motivated me. Thanks @TonyKhan for my show and letting me be me!! I’m you #ForeverROHchamp + 2024 I hope to be the first triple crown champ!”
