Ric Flair’s Decision to Not Re-Sign with WWE and His Desire for a Promo Battle with MJF – Ric Flair gave his first interview after officially signing with AEW, shedding light on his new venture and the partnership involving his Woooooo! Energy drink as the official beverage of Tony Khan’s promotion. Flair shared his thoughts with Marc Raimondi from ESPN.
Flair explained that he had initially presented this idea to WWE out of courtesy. However, WWE had a lot on their plate with the merger and various other initiatives, so they couldn’t pursue the opportunity at that time. Flair emphasized that it was not a sign of disrespect but rather a result of WWE’s busy schedule.
“Here we are today, marching on, making headway, going national with AEW. Out of courtesy, we ran it by WWE, and they have so much going on, it’s no fault of anybody. With the merger and so much going on, they moved past it. It was no disrespect to us, they just weren’t doing anything at the time. I ran it by Tony Khan, Tony called me, I put Chad [business partner Chad Bronstein] on the phone, and here we are.”
Ric Flair is considered to be one of the greatest promos in wrestling history with quotable lines and catchphrases that transcended the world of wrestling. MJF is considered by many to be one of the best on the mic in 2023. Now that Flair is officially All Elite, he would like to test himself against MJF.
“The one thing I want to do, I want to be a heel and have a conversation with MJF. A promo battle. Let’s see what you got kid. He’s spot on. I don’t think Tony [Tony Khan] has to worry about him leaving because he sounds like a very sincere and honest person. I think I’ve only met him one time. I look forward to that opportunity. He’s a very talented guy”
