Three Fighters Who Could Make WWE Debut Following UFC Merger

Three Fighters Who Could Make WWE Debut Following UFC Merger – The merger between the WWE and UFC has given avid fight fans the best of both worlds. Not only has this move created one of the biggest sports entertainment companies in the world, but with a pool of talent across the two brands, we could potentially see some MMA fighters switch their time between the Octagon and the wrestling ring in the future.

Historically, the WWE has welcomed some big names in MMA and boxing to their brand and many, such as Brock Lesnar and Ronda Rousey, have gone on to be very successful in the ring. Here’s a look at three UFC fighters we could see involved in WWE storylines soon.

Jon Jones

UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones made a return to UFC back in March after a three-year absence. In this showdown, he defeated Ciryl Gane and reclaimed his spot at the top of the pound-for-pound rankings. As it stands, Jon Jones is currently the favourite in the markets, for those betting on MMA, to defend his crown against Stipe Miocic at UFC 295.

Jones is one of the biggest names in the world of fighting, so he would be a fantastic addition to WWE. The heavyweight champion is charismatic, a former NJCAAA wrestling national champion and also in great physical shape, so he would be very comfortable in the ring.

Jones has stated in the past that it’s ‘inevitable’ he’ll feature in WWE at some point in his career. Victory over Miocic could be his last assignment in the Octagon before he looks for a new challenge.

Conor McGregor

Irishman Conor McGregor is arguably the biggest personality in UFC. His fights are watched by millions around the world owing to the fact he’s a showman and bold with self-promotion. So far, he’s been involved in some fantastic contests.

McGregor would be a huge coup for the WWE, as it could bring a whole new audience to Raw or Smackdown. He wouldn’t back down from any challenge in the organisation, whether that would come from the likes of Lesnar, Roman Reigns or Bobby Lashley.

At the moment, McGregor is preparing for his first UFC fight since 2021, as he’s due to face Michael Chandler at UFC 296 in December.

Alexander Volkanovski

With just one defeat in his 14 UFC fights, featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski has been one of the most successful fighters in the brand over the last decade. He’s currently number two in the pound-for-pound rankings in the UFC.

If Volkanovski stepped up to the WWE challenge, he’d definitely contribute towards building success for the brand in his native Australian market as he’s esteemed as a hugely popular fighter there. It’s likely that Volkanovski has taken note of his compatriot’s success: Rhea Ripley is now the women’s world champion, and she won the women’s Royal Rumble match for the first time in her career back in January.

Along with Robert Whittaker, Volkanovski was involved in a hilarious sketch back in April where he dressed up as Stone Cold Steve Austin. The featherweight champion is thought to be a big fan of the WWE so he may see it as a dream come true should get the opportunity to appear.

With just three big pay-per-view events left on the calendar in 2023, including the Survivor Series, there are some great opportunities to write the above three fighters into storylines this year.
