Their confrontation had been brewing since AEW All Out when Joe had shoved MJF, and tensions came to a head on Wednesday night.
As seen below, Joe questioned MJF’s motives and asked what his problem was. MJF responded by taking a jab at Joe’s weight before delivering a fiery message. He recounted an incident from his past when Joe had shoved him into a wall when he was an extra in NXT, and he threatened to send Joe back to NXT. MJF also made it clear that Joe wouldn’t be able to jump the line for a title shot, as the Grand Slam World Title Eliminator tournament would determine the next challenger.
Joe expressed his determination to run through the tournament and secure a title shot. However, things took a physical turn as Joe launched an attack on MJF from behind. In retaliation, MJF resorted to a low blow to gain the upper hand. The confrontation escalated, Joe overpowered him and went for a Musclebuster, but Adam Cole made the save. until Adam Cole intervened to save MJF.
Following the altercation, MJF appeared to have re-injured his neck, which had been a lingering issue since AEW All In. Medical personnel assisted MJF to the backstage area, leaving questions about his condition and the ongoing feud with Samoa Joe.
