During a segment in the ring with the rest of the LWO (Latino World Order), Escobar expressed his dream of facing Mysterio for a championship title. He made a formal request for a United States title match against Mysterio, who initially appeared surprised but swiftly accepted the challenge, making the match official.
Rey Mysterio had previously won the United States title on the August 11 episode of SmackDown. The storyline leading to his victory involved then-champion Austin Theory attacking Escobar before their scheduled match, resulting in an injury to Escobar’s knee. As Escobar was unable to compete, WWE official Adam Pearce accepted Mysterio’s offer to wrestle in Escobar’s place, leading to Mysterio’s victory over Theory.
Following the acceptance of the title match, Bobby Lashley and The Street Profits made their presence felt. This led to a match where The Street Profits faced LWO members Joaquin Wilde and Cruz Del Toro, with The Street Profits securing a quick victory in under a minute.
