Backstage News on Mustafa Ali WWE Release – Mustafa Ali was indeed among the first WWE talents to announce his departure from the company prior to the mass releases that occurred across the main roster and NXT last week.
In recent times, Ali had been actively involved in NXT and had successfully reinvented his character. He was originally slated to challenge Dominik Mysterio for the North American Title at NXT No Mercy. However, there has been a change of plans, and Dominik will now be defending the title against Trick Williams instead.
It’s worth noting that there was some frustration within NXT regarding the lack of proper communication with higher-ups concerning the releases. This occurred at a time when NXT was actively working to bolster the brand by incorporating more familiar names.
As revealed in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter by Dave Meltzer, the decision to release Mustafa Ali was made relatively late in the process.
Meltzer wrote, ”Regarding Ali being on television and pushing him for a match with Dominik Mysterio on 9/30 and then cutting him, it was said that there were names on the bubble and names that were going to be cut. He was in the former category but the decision was made late to cut him.”
