Backstage News on WWE’s Move of Jey Uso to RAW – John Cena and Jimmy Uso NotesJey Uso’s surprising return to WWE and subsequent move to the RAW roster at Payback left fans buzzing, but the decision was shrouded in secrecy. WWE officials have high hopes for Jey’s solo career, and they are eager to see him break through as a singles star without relying on The Bloodline storyline.

WWE went to great lengths to keep Jey’s roster change a well-guarded secret. Despite reports of Jey being backstage at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh on the day of Payback, his name was intentionally omitted from internal run sheets listing the night’s matches and segments. The segment involving Jey, Cody Rhodes, and Grayson Waller was produced by Shawn Daivari.

One lingering question is what this shift means for the rumored Uso vs. Uso match. Jimmy Uso has been involved in storylines with Solo Sikoa and WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns on SmackDown, but the original plan may have been a match between the Uso brothers. Some speculated that this highly anticipated clash might take place at Payback, possibly with WWE Hall of Famer Rikishi as the special referee. However, WWE might have felt that Payback was too soon for their first encounter. There were also discussions about saving the match for WrestleMania 40, but concerns arose that waiting until April would be too long. Given the potential for multiple matches in their feud, it remains to be seen if this part of the program has been abandoned with Jey’s move to RAW.

Jimmy’s recent involvement with John Cena on SmackDown also added layers to the storyline. Jimmy interrupted Cena’s in-ring promo, explaining his actions at SummerSlam, where he cost his brother Jey the match. Jimmy claimed he did it out of love for his brother, not wanting him to become corrupted like Cena or Reigns. However, Cena thwarted Jimmy’s superkick attempt and laid him out with the Attitude Adjustment.

Interestingly, Cena mentioned during his promo that he learned of his Payback hosting gig backstage in the Gorilla Position, just before he was set to come out. This revelation contradicted earlier reports that suggested Cena was likely to host Payback and was known as the host since last Thursday. WWE apparently devised the idea “very recently,” and Cena was only informed on Friday.

As for the rumors of a Cena vs. Cody Rhodes match during Cena’s short return stint, there have been no updates. It also remains uncertain whether Cena will make an appearance at WWE Fastlane on Saturday, October 7, in Indianapolis, despite WWE discussions about such an appearance. This move would make sense as Cena is already scheduled for the Fastlane go-home SmackDown on October 6 in St. Louis and the post-Fastlane SmackDown on October 13 in Tulsa.
