Chelsea Green Talks Character Pitches, Going To Bat For Herself, More

Chelsea Green talks to Sean Ross Sapp about the benefit of persistence.

Chelsea Green firmly believes that the squeaky wheel gets the grease in the wrestling industry. She explained this philosophy in a recent interview with Sean Ross Sapp during the red-carpet premiere of the new Cody Rhodes documentary, “American Nightmare: Becoming Cody Rhodes.”

“The squeaky wheel gets the grease,” said Chelsea. “Okay, like, let’s just call it what it is. I’m not gonna get what I don’t ask for. That’s also true. It’s so simple and, and people in this world there are so afraid to ask for things I am not. It might annoy people, but guess what? Here I am.”

As someone who likes to be the squeaky wheel, Green has never been shy about pitching directions for her character. One of the declined pitches was for her to be a follower of Seth Rollins during Seth’s initial heel turn in 2020. Her idea was to be nun-like and a devout follower of “The Visionary.”

Chelsea says that is her favorite of the neglected pitches.

“The nun pitch was my favorite. I wanted to be one of Seth’s followers and come out in a very nun-like, very Ivory-esque vibe. I got made fun of a lot on Twitter for that,” she recalls.

Getting back to her original message of the squeaky wheel getting the grease, Green reflected on finding Paul Heyman’s email after guessing it and reaching out to Triple H in jest before actually being given her job back with WWE.

Chelsea’s advice to those afraid to speak up? Always take your shot. The worst they can do is say, ‘No.’

“When I do these ridiculous things that I do, Sean, I never expect a response, and I definitely don’t respect a positive response. This just proves my point, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Just ask, what’s the worst that’s gonna happen? Because I promise you, they probably won’t say no, they’ll just ignore you,” she said. “There’s something to be said about just being honest with yourself and asking for something or really digging until you find someone’s email and you email them, Paul.”
