Why CM Punk Was Squashed By Jon Moxley On AEW Dynamite

Why CM Punk Was Squashed By Jon Moxley – Coming out of this week’s AEW Dynamite, there is a lot of discussion on CM Punk being squashed by Jon Moxley in the AEW World Title unification match.

As many of you saw, Punk went down and held the foot that he injured a few months ago. Punk took two Death Riders from Moxley and then was pinned and Moxley was crowned the Undisputed World Champion.

On the Wrestling Observer Board, Ryan Frederick confirmed what Sean Ross Sapp first reported about the match. Punk is not injured and the plan is still for Moxley vs. Punk at All Out.

It was also reported that Moxley didn’t like the original plans for the pay-per-view and he pitched what happened tonight. The assumption here would be that Moxley was going to lose to Punk at the pay-per-view. That is not confirmed but it probably makes sense in his mind for him to get a win on Punk if he is going to drop the title.

If you didn’t see the Punk vs. Kingston match, AEW has posted all of it and you can click below to watch it.

It had been reported before the unification match happened that the two men would meet for the unified title at All Out, which many fans expected to be their first collision in AEW, but after the way their encounter was booked on AEW Dynamite, doubles began to creep in.

While some sort of outside angle or controversial finish was widely expected to setup a rematch at the PPV, that was not the case, as Moxley picked up the victory clean. Punk connected with a kick at the start of the match, then began selling a foot injury — the reason he’s been off television for several months, and the reason Moxley became Interim Champion in the first place.
