WWE has re-hired Jerry Soto for their Spanish Language broadcasts. Soto was previously released in November 2020 as part of budget cuts related to the pandemic. Soto is replacing Carlos Cabrera, who was let go this week.
Cabrera’s release was shocking because he was there since 1993 and was seen as a Jim Ross level announcer to the Spanish speaking audience. Dave Meltzer noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Cabrera’s release was an age-related decision because they wanted someone younger.
Cabrera did all the Spanish announcing for all of the main shows including Raw, SmackDown NXT and the pay-per-views. His last time on WWE TV was this past Tuesday at NXT Vengeance Day.
Soto will work alongside Marcelo Rodriguez.
