WWE SmackDown Results - July 9, 2021

WWE SmackDown Results – July 9, 2021 – We begin with a look back at what has happened over the last few weeks with Edge, Roman Reigns, and Jimmy Uso.

— Paul Heyman is outside Roman’s office and Jimmy Uso wants to enter.  Paul stops Jimmy and he says that Roman has a lot on his plate that he has to deal with.  He tells Jimmy that Roman will give him his full attention tonight and Jimmy will get it.

— We’re live, for the last time, from the WWE ThunderDome at Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida, as Roman Reigns makes his way to the ring accompanied by Paul Heyman.

Reigns says he knows a lot of you at home didn’t like the fact that I wasn’t present last week.  There is a lot about last week that I didn’t like.  If there is one thing that stood out that I won’t stand for is a liar like Edge.  To come out and say that I fear him and that he is in my head.  Roman says he is an honest man and I will tell the truth.  In our Wrestlemania match, for maybe one moment, fear can sometimes happen.  Maybe 10 or 20 seconds when he had me in that hold and had that bar across my face, maybe there was some fear.

What did that do?  It propelled me like every piece of adversity and I picked myself up.  What happened?  I smashed ’em, I stacked ’em, and I pinned ’em.  Don’t come out here and say you are in my head and I fear you.  The only reason you got to me a few weeks ago was not due to fear, but I was not focused.  I was busy dealing with family issues that you weren’t on my mind. While we are talking about family, it might be time to handle some business.

Jimmy Uso’s music plays and he makes his way to the ring.  Jimmy asks why did Roman think he got in Edge’s face last week?  It wasn’t for me, it was for us.  You must have been on vacation last week because I showed up.

Roman asks Jimmy when did he tell Jimmy to do things for us or make decisions for us?  If anyone deserves a vacation, it is him but he doesn’t take vacations.  He was busy doing Jimmy’s job.

The Uso’s music plays again and Jey Uso makes his way to the ring.

Jey says he is back but not for any of them, but for all of them.  Your right hand man is back.  Jey tells Jimmy it is time to get back to work doing what they do best and that is become 7 time tag team champions.

Roman says he has been saying it all along.  That is all he wants.  You choose what you want to hear but I have been saying it.  Seven time tag team champions.  Universal Champion for however long I want to be.  We do it together, on the same page, all of us working together.  Can’t nobody touch us if we do it my way.

Roman holds his arms out and Paul takes the mic so we can get a family hug. Roman hugs them, but he has a devious look on his face.

Backstage:

Baron Corbin is in the back and he is growing hair. Kayla asks Baron about his history with Nakamura and the match tonight. Baron says he needs to win and he says his life is a mess.  I have lost my money, my crown, my car, and I have missed a few house payments and they are talking about foreclosure. He goes on about winning Money In the Bank again and says winning is the only opportunity he has at turning his life back around. A somber Corbin walks off.

— We go back to the ring and out comes Baron Corbin walking with no entrance. We go to commercial.

Megan Monet is in the back with Edge.  She asks about Roman being back. Edge says he will save his comments for later when he calls Roman out.  He wonders if Roman has big enough set of jewels or will Dumb and Dumber join him.  He says that it will not be a good family reunion and that is not a prediction, but a spoiler.

— We see Sonya Deville make her way to the ring and she will be announcing who replaces Bayley in the Smackdown Women’s Title Match at Money in the Bank.

We go to commercial.

In the Arena:

Sonya says this is an announcement she hoped she never would have to make.  Bayley suffered an injury while training and she will be out for nine months.  That means that Bayley will not be competing at Money in the Bank.

Bayley did have some comments earlier.  Bayley says you think this sucks because you wanted to see the longest reigning Smackdown Women’s Champion win back her title.  Now she is hurt and now that I think about it, that is not what you are thinking.  You don’t care at all.  I did this to get better for Money in the Bank.  This is all your fault.  I don’t give a damn who they put in my place because they are not as good as me.

Sonya says Bianca will not be defending the title at Money at the Bank.  She will be defending it next Friday in Houston.  She will be facing a former Smackdown champion and two time Money in the Bank winner… Carmella.

Carmella gets into the ring and says she gets it that you are mad.  She thanks Sonya for this long overdue much deserved honor.  You made a mistake by not mentioning that I am the most beautiful woman in all of WWE.

Like clockwork, Liv Morgan makes her way to the ring and she is pissed.  You just appoint people?  You appoint her in the Money in the Bank match and now you appoint her to be Bayley’s replacement. Liv wants to know how many times does she have to beat Carmella to earn a spot.  This is favoritism. Sonya tells Liv that she was going to appoint Carmella’s replacement for Money in the Bank.  You are in the match, now get out of my ring or you will lose that opportunity. Liv tells Carmella she hopes that she wins the title next week because when I win Money in the Bank, I am cashing in on you.

Smackdown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair makes her way to the stage and Liv points at the Briefcase. Bianca says she will accept Carmella as her challenger, but she doesn’t know if Bayley is really injured.  If it isn’t you are stooping low.  If it is real, I respect your competitive skills.  I look forward to finishing it when you come back. Carmella, I’ll see you next week.

Backstage:

Roman Reigns looks disappointed he was not put into the Women’s Money in the Bank match.  Paul stoops by and he says they may have a problem and it is Edge.  Paul says Edge intends on going to the ring and pulling his punk card and call you out to the ring. Roman wants to know what else did Edge say. Paul says Edge questioned his manhood.
