The Former Interim UFC Lightweight Champion, Dustin Poirier, has recently beaten Conor McGregor by TKO. The Irish broke his leg and couldn’t continue the bout. However, Poirier has had many brighter wins in his career. We decided to remember the best inside-the-distance victories of the American fighter.
The Fight with Derek Gauthier
Poirier had a bout with the Canadian fighter Derek Gauthier in June 2010 during Ringside MMA 7. The American won the bout. He knocked out his opponent in the first round with a powerful left hook and finished him.
The Fight with Bobby Green
Poirier fought with his compatriot Bobby Green at UFC 199. This event was held in June 2016. Dustin dropped his opponent to the canvas, swinging and delivering a crushing left-hand punch. After that, Poirier landed a follow-up punch. The judge interrupted the fight and gave the victory by knockout to Dustin.
The Fight with Conor McGregor
In January 2021, Poirier had a rematch against Conor McGregor. In the first fight, which took place in 2014 at UFC 178, the Irish won by TKO in the first round, and Dustin was eager to avenge his defeat.
The fight this winter also lasted for a short time, but it didn’t develop in a way the bookmakers thought it would (you can find the list of the best betting companies at Meta.reviews. The experts were sure that McGregor would win and estimated the probability of his success at 73%. Poirier had much lower odds: 31%.
But in the second round, Dustin pressed Conor against the net and delivered a series of punches, dropping the Irishman with an uppercut. The result was the TKO victory of the American fighter.
The Fight with Aaron Suarez
In May 2009, two American fighters, Dustin Poirier and Aaron Suarez, met at the octagon during USA MMA 7. As in his fight with McGregor, Dustin pressed his opponent against the cage and landed a few punches that sent Suarez crashing to the canvas. Then the referee stopped the fight, and Poirier won in the first round.
The Fight with Eddie Alvarez
Poirier and Eddie Alvarez met at the octagon in July 2018 during the UFC event on Fox 30. In the second round, Dustin landed a punch, a knee to the head, and then began to attack his opponent in every way possible: with elbows, knees, and kicks. Alvarez attempted to respond with swinging punches, but constantly missed and only made his position more difficult. In the end, he fell under a hail of punches from Poirier. The referee immediately recorded Dustin’s win.
During the first bout between the fighters (it was held in May 2017 at UFC 211), Alvarez hit Poirier with an illegal knee to the head, causing the fight to be declared No Contest. In 2018 Dustin managed to get revenge on his opponent.
To this date, 32-year-old Dustin Poirier has 28 wins and 6 losses. We are sure that this talented fighter will have many more spectacular and exciting bouts.
