Samoa Joe Says He’s Working Towards In-Ring Return – Samoa Joe, who recently returned to NXT as special Enforcer to General Manager William Regal, spoke with Ryan Satin on his Out of Character podcast.
As noted, it was reported that Triple H wanted Joe back in NXT as opposed to being in another promotion. Of course, Triple H has been a big fan of Joe as Triple H was the person who initially brought him into WWE in 2015 for NXT.
Joe talked about his release and NXT return. He started out by talking about how he was sending out various messages to people he was close with in WWE and how he enjoyed working with them shortly after learning of his release.
This led to a brief conversation with Triple H a few hours after being released that eventually led to him coming back to NXT. He then revealed his behind-the-scenes role with the company in addition to his on-screen role as the enforcer for NXT GM William Regal.
“A lot of what was, me and Triple H had spoken about this transition in-depth further. It wasn’t just coming back to NXT and being an enforcer and having a role on the show. Now, I’m working in the talent scouting department, working with Canyon Ceman, doing more administrative things here and there behind the scenes. It’s a transition into some of the other aspects of the business of WWE.”
Joe continued by noting that it’s an evolution of his journey in wrestling and cool opportunity that Triple H offered him after they had a very nice understanding that they had come to.
Regarding his scouting role, he said he keeps a pulse on the industry whether it’s through him looking at talent or asking his contacts. He said it is a nice fit and he’s “looking forward to giving an opportunity to people who maybe wouldn’t get a look.”
This conversation led to the possibility of him returning to in-ring competition after being sidelined since February 2020 due to concussion-related injuries. Joe kept it short by stating, “absolutely, we’ll just say yes, and leave it at that.”
