Tag Team Titles Match Announced For Smackdown

WWE Smackdown Results – May 28, 2021 – Tonight’s show begins with Jimmy and Jey Uso in Roman’s locker room, where Jimmy is excited to be in action as a team for the first time in over a year. Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman show up and Roman looks at them. Roman asks if they feel good. Jimmy says he is ready. Roman wants to make sure he has this straight. He wants to know what Jimmy’s intentions are with his brother and what the end game is. Jimmy says the end game is to win. They are going to get gold to put their titles next to Roman’s title. Roman says Jimmy sounds like he has it figured out and he is happy for him and he wishes Jimmy luck. Jimmy leaves the room and Roman asks Jey if his brother is talking for him now. Jey tells Roman he is with him. Roman tells Jey to tell Jimmy.

— We’re live from the WWE ThunderDome at Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida, as The Street Profits make their way to the ring.

Montez says it is Friday night in the Thunderdome and he asks Angelo if he noticed that he has had a pep in his step this week.  Tonight is a night unlike no other night.  Tonight is the Clash of the Titans.  Tonight is the Street Profits versus the Usos.  Ford says they had a little fun at the Uso’s expense last week.  When the Street Profits heard that the Usos were challenging them, they were flattered.  Of all the teams in the world, they chose us.  Ford says they have been down since day one.  Ford mentions the Haka.  That isn’t the type of Usos are they are facing tonight.  It has been an entire year since Jimmy returned from his injury.  Roman lives in Jey’s head rent free.  Dawkins says it looks like Roman will be taking residence in Jimmy’s head too.

The Usos make their way to the ring.

Ford asks if his eyes are deceiving him because he sees the Usos. Jimmy asks if they hear it and they have jokes.  It doesn’t matter if I have been on the shelf for a year or ten years, the best tag team in the business is back.  Jimmy wants to remind them who they are talking to.  Six time WWE Tag Team Champions, back to back Tag Team of the Year, and soon to be seven time Tag Team Champions. Jey says this is family business and you have stuck your nose in the middle of it.  You are on social media saying this is a dream match, welcome to the nightmare. Jimmy says when they win, they move one step closer to being tag team champions. Dawkins asks if they think they are stepping stones.  You used to run the tag division.  We run this division now.

We go to commercial.

The Street Profits vs. The Usos

Jimmy and Dawkins start things off.  They lock up and Dawkins backs Jimmy into the corner and Dawkins with a side head lock and shoulder tackle.  Dawkins with another shoulder tackle and Ford tags in.  Ford is sent onto Jimmy with a belly-to-back into a splash for a near fall.  Jey tags in and Jey with a kick and punch to Ford.  Jey with an uppercut and he chokes Ford in the corner.  Jey with an Irish whip and Ford floats over and flips around.  Ford with an arm drag into an arm bar.  Dawkins tags in and they hit a double belly-to-back suplex for a near fall.  Jey runs Dawkins into the corner and Jimmy tags in and hits a forearm and a chop for a near fall. 

Jimmy with a diving head butt and chop.  Dawkins with kicks but Jimmy with a chop.  Dawkins with an arm drag.  Jey tags in and he punches Dawkins.  Jey with a head butt to Dawkins.  Jimmy tags back in and he punches Dawkins.  Dawkins with an arm drag into an arm bar and Ford tags in.  Ford with a drop kick to Jimmy and then Dawkins with a drop kick to Jey.  Ford and Dawkins clothesline Jimmy and Jey to the floor and then Jey is sent over the ringside barrier while Jimmy is sent over the announce table as we go to commercial.

We are back and Dawkins with an arm bar and Ford tags in and hits a forearm off the turnbuckles to the arm.  Jey tags in and he trips Ford and sends Ford to the floor and into the ringside barrier.  Ford struggles to get back to his feet and Jey sends him back into the ringside barrier again.  Jey wtih a belly-to-back suplex on Ford.  Jey kicks Ford and Jimmy tags back in and Jey with a back breaker and Jimmy with a double sledge to Ford.

We see Roman and Paul watching in the back as if they were the Emperor and Anakin Skywalker at the opera/ballet/space show.

Jimmy with a forearm and suplex to keep Ford from making the tag and Jimmy gets a near fall.  Jey tags in and they make a wish with Ford.  Ford with punches but Jey with a forearm to the back.  Jey with a reverse chin lock.  Jey with a punch and Ford punches back.  Ford fights out of the corner and he is flipped over by Jey and Ford with an enzuigiri that sends Jey to the floor.  Jimmy stops Ford from making the tag by grabbing the leg.  Forrd gets to his feet and he hits an enzuigiri on Jimmy.  Jey pulls Dawkins off the apron as Ford dives to the corner.  Jimmy with a pop up Samoan drop for a near fall.  

We go to commercial.

We are back and Ford blocks a superplex from Jey.  Ford is knocked off the turnbuckles and Ford holds his wrist.  Ford with an enzuigiri and he goes up top again.  Ford leaps over Jey and both men with clotheslines and both men are down.  Dawkins tags in and he punches Jey and Jimmy.  Jey with a thrust kick and Jimmy tags in but Dawkins sends Jey to the mat and Dawkins with a flying corkscrew elbow and flapjack for a near fall.  Jimmy gets to the apron and he kicks Dawkins.  Dawkins punches Jimmy on the turnbuckels and Ford flips over the ring post onto Jey.  Dawkins goes for a butterfly move but Jimmy escapes and hits a super kick for a near fall.

Jimmy runs into a shoudler from Dawkins and Dawkins with a butterfly neck breaker for a near fall.  Dawkins goes for a butterfly neck breaker again and Jimmy has a super kick blocked. Dawkins with Anoitment but Ford misses a Seven Star Frog Splash.  Jimmy with a super kick for the three count.

Winners: The Usos

After the match, The Usos celebrate as the music hits. Jimmy and Jey head to the ramp bragging as Ford and Dawkins look on from the ring, disappointed.

Backstage:

Megan Morant is in the back with Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode.  Megan asks about their problems when they lost the title and if tonight will be any different.  Roode says their strategy at Backlash was off.  Dolph says Rey used super human strength because his child was in danger.  Ziggler says they are aces and they do what they want when they want.  They will become Smackdown tag team champions again.

— Natalya & Tamina make their way to the ring as we go to commercial.

Natalya and Tamina Snuka vs. The Riott Squad

The match is joined in progress and Ruby sends Natalya into the ropes and Liv tags in and hits a drop kick to the back.  Ruby tags back in and Liv sends Ruby into the corner with a shoulder.  Liv tags back in and she kicks Natalya into the corner and Ruby sends Natalya face first into the turnbuckles.  Liv gets a near fall.  Ruby tags back in and she applies a reverse chin lock.  We are told that Tamina was attacked before the match so she is not on the apron.  Ruby with a clothesline for a near fall.  Liv tags in and she misses a double stomp and Natalya with a double leg take down and then she goes for a double sharpshooter and Ruby and Liv kick her away.  Tamina pushes Liv onto Ruby to break up a cover.

Tamina tags in and Ruby goes for a side Russian leg sweep but Tamina blocks it.  Ruby with punches but Tamina with a forearm to the back of the head and hits the ropes.  Natalya pulls Liv off the apron and Tamina blocks an arm drag off the turnbuckles. Tamina with a head butt.  Liv with a facebuster to Natalya on the floor while Tamina hits the Superfly splash for the three count.

Winners:  Tamina and Natalya

Backstage:

Adam Pearce is in his office looking at his phone and the Usos enter.  Jimmy points out they won and didn’t miss a step.  Adam says it was an impressive win and the Street Profits are a tough team.  Jimmy wants the winner of tonight’s tag title match next week. Adam makes the match official and Jimmy leaves the office happy while Jey is conflicted.

— Bianca Belair makes her way to the ring as we go to commercial.

Bianca Belair vs. Carmella

Before the match, Kayla Braxton has a question for Carmella but Carmella comments on Kayla’s dress.  Carmella says Bianca won the title in a shady way.  Enough about Bianca and more about her.  Carmella reminds us that she won the Wrestlemania battle royal, won Money in the Bank twice, and is a former Women’s Champion.  She will end Bianca’s fairy tale right now.

Before the match starts, Bayley makes her way through the crowd to join Cole and Pat on commentary.

Bianca runs Carmella into the corner and connects with shoulders.  Carmella with an elbow.  Bianca with shoulders in the corner.  Carmella drops Bianca on the top rope and Carmella with a satellite head scissors that sends Bianca to the floor in front of the announce table.  Carmella runs at Bianca and Bianca with a shoulder tackle.  Bianca presses Carmella over her head and tosses her into the ring.  Carmella gets to teh apron and she punches Bianca.  Carmella with an X Factor on the apron and Carmella gets a near fall.  Carmella sends Bianca into the turnbuckles and Carmella with elbows  in the corner.

Carmella with a forearm to the back.  Carmella gets a near fall.  Carmella with a reverse chin lock.  Bianca with elbows and a back breaker.  Bianca with a shoulder tackle and shoulders in the corner.  Bianca sends Carmella into the turnbuckles.  Carmella with elbows and she goes up top.  Carmella with a cross body but Bianca rolls through and picks up Carmella and hits a fallaway slam.  Bianca with a handspring moonsault for a near fall.  Bianca misses a shoulder in the corner and hits the ring post.  Carmella with a figure four head scissors in the ropes and then she slaps Bianca and connects with forearms to the back.  Carmella with a thrust kick and she gets a near fall.

Carmella with another near fall.  Bianca with a rollup and she gets a near fall.  Carmella with kicks but Bianca blocks an X Factor and hits KOD for the three count.

Winner:  Bianca Belair

After the match, Bayley stands up on the announce table and she laughs at Bianca.

Backstage:

Megan is in the back with Rey and Dominik Mysterio.  Rey says they have a game plan tonight.  It is different when you team with your son.  When Dom hurts, I hurt.  Dominik says it was euphoria when they won the tag titles.  They will not lose tonight and there is no team that can top this.  Dominik and Rey say they love each other.

Seth Rollins marches to the ring as we go to commercial.

In the Arena:

Back from the break and Rollins is in the ring with a mic as the boos continue. He says he did not come to talk tonight, he came to fight. He calls Cesaro out to the ring so they can finish what they have going on.

Cesaro isn’t coming out and Rollins says he’s not here. Of course he’s not here to Swing him or disrespect him tonight, or look past him. Cesaro’s not here to ruin the greatest day of the year – Rollins’ birthday. Rollins goes on and shows us video of what happened last week. He says that was hard to watch but not the worst of it. He says he’s obtained some exclusive audio from Cesaro’s hospital room but it’s just a joke. Rollins laughs away but says in all seriousness, what happened to Cesaro last week was unfortunate. Cesaro pushed hi to a place he didn’t know, and Cesaro deserves part of the blame because he put himself in that situation.

Rollins goes on and says he’s a man of integrity and the truth is… we have to place some of the blame on you, he says looking at the camera. The boos get louder. Rollins says the fans watching at home are the ones who brainwashed Cesaro into believing it’s OK to disrespect Rollins, into believing he can look right through Rollins, into believing he deserves opportunities he simply did not earn. Rollins says if Cesaro never steps foot in the ring again, the blame is on Cesaro and the fans. Rollins says the blame is not on his hands as they are clean, but the fans’ hands are filthy. Rollins says Happy Birthday to himself again and starts singing. He tosses the mic as the boos get louder. Rollins’ music starts up as he makes his exit from the ring.

— Kevin Owens walks in the back as we go to commercial.

Apollo Crews vs. Kevin Owens

Back from the break and Kevin Owens waits in the ring as WWE Intercontinental Champion Apollo Crews comes out for this non-title match. Commander Azeez is with him.

The bell rings and Owens unloads, taking Crews into the corner. Owens drops Crews and nails a corner cannonball for a pop. Owens goes to the top and hits the big Swanton but Crews kicks out at 2. Owens and Crews trade suplex attempts while Crews is on the apron. Crews hangs Owens up on the top rope and he goes down. Crews goes to the top but Owens attacks. Crews sends him to the mat.

Crews has to roll through from the top and Owens superkicks him. Crews blocks a Pop-up Powerbomb but Owens continues the quick, aggressive offense as he hits the Stunner. Owens goes for the pin but Azeez hits him with the Nigerian Nail for the disqualification.

Winner by DQ: Kevin Owens

After the match, Owens gasps for air while down in the mat as his music hits. Crews is announced as still the champion as Azeez helps him up at ringside and hands the Intercontinental Title to him. Owens stumbles to ringside and he’s hurt, choking and gasping for air. Crews and Azeez look on from the ramp as officials check on Owens at ringside.

Backstage:

Roman Reigns is backstage with Paul Heyman. Heyman introduces Jey Uso, who has walked in. Jey takes a seat. Reigns brings up the title shot The Usos have for next week and asks if that’s what he wants to do. Reigns asks why Jey told him earlier that he’s still with him. What happened to we? Reigns says everything they’ve been through over these months, he only wanted the best for Jey, that was all that mattered to him, doing right by Jey and the family. They will figure it out when it comes to Jimmy Uso, but Jey is Main Event Jey Uso now and when they go according to Reigns’ plan, Jey owns SmackDown but as soon as his brother comes back, they’re stuck in the opening match. Reigns just doesn’t want Jey to go back to a place where people look at him and say wonder which brother he is. Jey shakes his head and says he hasn’t thought about it like that, Uce. Reigns says maybe Jey should think about it like that because his brother isn’t. Fans in the arena boo as the segment ends.

Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Chad Gable

We go back to the ring and out comes Rick Boogs to the stage. Boogs starts playing his guitar and does an introduction for Shinsuke Nakamura. The music hits and Boogs plays along as Nakamura makes his way out. They head to the ring together to a pop as McAfee goes wild at ringside. Back to commercial.

We are back and Otis attacks Nakamura before the bell rings and hits a World’s Strongest Slam.

The match starts and Gable with a series of belly-to-belly suplexes for a near fall.  Nakamura with a running kick to Gable.  Nakamura with a forearm to Gable and then to Otis.  Gable with a triangle in the ropes.   Nakamura with a sleeper but Gable works on the arm and then sends Nakamura into the turnbuckles.  Gable misses a moonsault and Nakamura with a back heel kick.  

Baron Corbin takes back his crown during the match.  Nakamura counters Chaos Theory with a rollup for a near fall.  Nakamura with Kinshasa for the three count.

Winner:  Shinsuke Nakamura

After the match, Nakamura realizes that Corbin got his crown back. Boogs hits Corbin from behind and Nakamura picks up the crown and puts it back on.

— Kevin Owens is in the back and he is having trouble breathing but he wants a title match against Apollo Crews. Adam Pearce tells Owens he has his title match next week and Azeez is banned from ringside.

— Rey Mysterio is in the back and Dominik shows up to tell him that their match is next.

We go to commercial.

Dominik Mysterio and Rey Mysterio vs. Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler for the Smackdown Tag Team Championship

We are back and Rey Mysterio is down in teh back and the medical staff is checking on him.  Dominik shows ‘concern’ over his ‘father’s’ injury.

Meanwhile, in the ring, Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode are SHOCKED at what has just happened.

Roode and Ziggler get mics and Dolph says they had nothing to do with that.  They wanted to fight the Mysterios for the tag titles.  Roode says they wanted a fair fight.  If Rey can’t go, then it is a forfeit and they win the titles.  Dolph wants the referee to count them out.  Dolph says Rey got injured and it is not on them, it is on Rey and Dominik.  Roode says Dominik is not going to fight them by himself.

Dominik says that Rey stepped up for him at Backlash so he will step up tonight. Dominik makes his way to the ring as we go to commercial.

Back from the break and Dominik punches Ziggler and then he goes after Roode on the apron and punches him many times.  Ziggler with a drop kick for a near fall.  Roode tags in and he punches Dominik and hits a suplex for a near fall.  Roode kicks Dominik in the corner.  Roode sends Dominik into the turnbuckles and Ziggler tags in and punches Dominik.  Dominik with a punch but Ziggler with punches.  Dolph taunts and mocks Dominik to make the tag and Ziggler gets a near fall.  Dolph stomps on the hand.
