WWE Smackdown Results - June 12, 2020

– SmackDown opens up with a video package showing last week’s Jeff Hardy promo on the hit & run from the previous week. We also see what happened with Sheamus.

– Cole sends us to Renee Young in the ring. She mentions Jeff Hardy vs. Sheamus at WWE Backlash and says WWE management has requested that they sign a contract to make the match official. Renee introduces Sheamus first and out he comes to boos. Sheamus comes to the ring with a doctor in a lab coat, and four men dressed in black as security. They are carrying a large black wrap-around cover or shield with them. Renee introduces Hardy next and out he comes to a pop.

Renee asks what this is all about and Sheamus doesn’t want to embarrass the lady. Hardy isn’t worried what this is about. Jeff accuses Sheamus of being behind the recent hit and run. Jeff mentions at Backlash nothing will be able to save Sheamus, even his security. Sheamus wants a little assurance going into Backlash. He had his lawyer make it to where Jeff has to take a urine test before he signs the contract. Sheamus believes Jeff will fail the test and if he does, the Backlash match is off because there’s no chance he’s stepping in the ring with a junkie. Sheamus gets booed some more now. Jeff says he is an alcoholic and if this is what he has to do to get to Sheamus, fine. He’s been battling alcohol and addiction since his early 20s, and he’s tired of fighting. He goes to meetings each week and talks about how he’s let everyone down. He’s sick and tired of being sick and tired. His demons are starving and sometimes all it takes to want to feed them is being in the presence of a bastard like Sheamus but not this time, he’s going to be a beacon of light for everyone else who experiences something like this. Jeff goes on about what he’s going to do to Sheamus. Sheamus says his doctor will be able to speed up the test which usually takes 24 hours, and he will pay for the test on his own. Sheamus says his doctor is even overseeing the test.

Sheamus asks Renee to leave the ring because Jeff is experiencing performance issues. Jeff steps inside of the curtain that Sheamus had brought out. The doctor steps in with him. Sheamus knocks Hardy while he apparently urinates in a cup. They step back out with a glass full of urine. Sheamus jokes that Hardy had fun at Happy Hour. Sheamus continues to taunt Hardy as the doctor tests the urine. Jeff ends up grabbing the urine and throwing it in Sheamus’ face. Jeff exits the ring while Sheamus stumbles back, covered in urine. Sheamus is furious. We see Sheamus’ doctor heading to the back. Sheamus flips the contract signing table over in the ring and fumes as security looks on. The crowd chants “you got pissed on!” as Jeff watches from the ramp. Jeff’s music starts back up as we go to commercial.

– We are back and Sheamus is washing his face and trying to get the taste out of his mouth in the bathroom. The doctor shows up and he tells Sheamus the test results came back negative. Sheamus gags and then he damages the bathroom.

The New Day vs. Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura

We go back to the ring and out come SmackDown Tag Team Champions The New Day – Big E and Kofi Kingston. They take a knee and kneel in the middle of the ring, raising their fists in the air. Out next are Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura for this non-title match as Greg Hamilton does the introductions.

Cesaro and Kofi start things off and Cesaro with a wrist lock and Kofi with a reversal and leg sweep. Kofi with a splash for a near fall. Cesaro catches Kofi on a leap frog and hits a tilt-a-whirl back breaker. Nakamura tags in and Nakamura chokes Kofi in the corner. Kofi with a double stomp as Nakamura charges into the corner. Kofi gets a near fall. Kofi clotheslines Nakamura over the top rope. Big E tags in and Big E tosses Kofi onto Nakamura but Cesaro takes care of Kofi. Big E with a clothesline to Nakamura.

Cesaro distracts BIg E and Nakamura kicks Big E to the floor. Cesaro with a European uppercut to Big E on the floor. We go to commercial.

We are back and Cesaro sends Big E into the corner and hits a European uppercut. Nakamura tags in and hits a runinng knee to the midsection for a near fall. Cesaro tags in and Cesaro returns to the arm bar. Cesaro with an Irish whip and Big E with an elbow. Big E with a belly-to-belly suplex. Nakamura tags in and so does Kofi. Kofi with a springboard chop to the head followed by more chops and a drop kick. Kofi with a jumping clothesline and then he sets for the Boom Drop and hits it. Kofi escapes from Nakamura and hits SOS for a near fall. Cesaro kicks Kofi but Big E clotheslines Cesaro over the top rope and BIg E joins Cesaro on the floor.

Kofi with a kick and they go to the turnbuckles. Nakamura goes for a superplex but Kofi with forearms and he knocks Nakamura to the mat. Nakamura gets his knee up on a cross body and Nakamura gets the three count.

Winners: Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro

Backstage:

Tucker Knight and Otis Dozovic are in the back and Otis has a blindfold on so he can work on his other senses. Otis hears a bell and then he smells some meat. Otis gets a kiss and then he thanks Tucker for the motivation but he sees that it is Mandy. Mandy wishes him luck and she gives him the briefcase. Tucker tells Otis that Braun is their partner but tonight could be his night.

We see Sheamus and Jeff Hardy fighting in the back and officials and agents are able to separate them. Back to commercial.

Daniel Bryan vs. AJ Styles for the Intercontinental Championship

We go to the ring for tonight’s tournament finals for the vacant WWE Intercontinental Title as AJ Styles makes his way out first. Daniel Bryan is out next. We get formal ring introductions from Hamilton.

They lock up and Bryan with a wrist lock. Styles with a reversal. Bryan tries to escape but Styles holds on and continues to work on the wrist. Bryan with an escape and drop kick. They go for a Greco Roman Knuckle Lock but Styles with a kick and forearm. AJ sends Bryan into the turnbuckles. Styles with a double thrust to the throat. Styles is sent to the floor when he charges at Bryan and then Bryan with a suicide dive for a near fall.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Bryan with a wrist lock into a hammer lock and then he connects with a series of knees to the arm. Bryan wtih a wrist lock while he has the other arm in a hammer lock using the leg. Bryan gets a near fall. Bryan with a double wrist lock and AJ with a Phenomenal Drop Kick. AJ punches Bryan. Styles with a chop but Bryan with European uppercuts. Bryan with a snap mare but Styles with an arm bar. Styles with an arm wringer and Bryan lands face first on the mat.

Styles with a double wrist lock and Bryan with a knee to the midsection. Bryan sets for the surfboard on Styles but he drives the knees to the mat. Bryan goes for a Regal Stretch, but he cannot lock it in. Bryan with a step over toe hold and he drops back to the mat to add pressure to the legs. Bryan with a rollup for a near fall. Styles gets to the ropes. Bryan wtih kicks in the corner. Bryan sets for the running drop kick into the corner but Styles wtih a sunset flip for a near fall. Bryan and Styles alternate near falls. Styles with a side head lock and Bryan with a head scissors. Styles escapes.

Bryan and Styles both go for cross body presses but both men go down.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Bryan with a wrist lock and he works on the shoulder. Styles with a rollup for a near fall. Bryan goes for the LeBell Lock but Styles escapes and sends Bryan to the floor. Bryan with a hammer lock on the floor and he sends AJ shoulder first into the ring post. Bryan stomps on the arm on the apron. Bryan with an arm wringer and then he stomps on the elbow. Bryan with a hammer lock and he pulls the arm in unnatural positions. Bryan with an Irish whip but Styles moves when Bryan goes for a running drop kick into the corner.

Styles with a kick to the back of the leg. Styles with a dragon screw into the apron. Styles with a knee drop to the leg. Styles puts Bryan’s leg in the ropes and he wraps it and then hangs Bryan in the ropes. Styles kicks AJ but he has until five. Bryan with an enzuigiri and both men are down. Styles with a kick to Bryan and Styles goes for a springboard move but Bryan pushes Styles and Styles lands on the top rope. Bryan with kicks to the chest. Bryan with a Frankensteiner. Bryan with kicks to the leg but he misses the round kick. Styles with strikes and a clothesline.

Both men are down and we go to commercial.

We are back and Bryan and AJ exchange forearms and kicks. Bryan and AJ continue to exchange strikes and AJ kicks Bryan in the leg. Bryan back drops AJ over the top rope to the floor. Bryan sets for a dive but Styles kicks Bryan on the apron. Styles comes off the ropes and Bryan catches Styles and then sets for an arm bar submission. Styles blocks it and applies the Calf Crusher. Bryan escapes and kicks AJ and then hits the round kick for a near fall. Bryan puts Styles on the turnbuckles. Styles knocks Bryan off the turnbuckles to the mat. Bryan with a forearm to the back that stops AJ. Styles with elbows to Bryan but Bryan holds on for a moment until he goes to the mat again.

Bryan with another forearm to the back and Bryan sets for a belly-to-back superplex and both men are down. We go to commercial.

We are back and Bryan with more kicks and Styles with an Irish whip. Bryan floats over and his knee gives out. Styles with a moonsault into a reverse DDT and he gets a near fall. Styles with a Pele Kick. Styles with a brainbuster for a near fall. AJ sets for a Styles Clash but Bryan with a jackknife cover for a near fall. Bryan catches AJ on a Pele Kick and he applies an ankle lock and then traps the leg and hits a German suplex for a near fall. Style with a standing switch and German suplex for a near fall. Bryan with a German suplex for a near fall. Bryan with elbows to the jaw while in a seated abdominal stretch. Bryan with a LeBell Lock and Styles tries to fight through the pain. AJ gets his foot on the rope to force a break.

Bryan grabs the arms and he stomps on the chest and head. Bryan sets for the flying knee but Styles catches Bryan and hits a Styles Clash but AJ cannot roll over to make the instant cover. Styles with a Phenomenal Forearm for the three count.

Winner: AJ Styles (new Champion)

After the match, Renee Young interviews AJ and congratulates him on his victory. He is asked what this victory means. AJ says he is the best WWE Champion the WWE Universe has ever seen.

– We take a look at what happened last week between Miz, John Morrison, and Braun Strowman.

Backstage:

Braun says a lot is going on tonight. Braun mentions the drug test, title match, and Sheamus running around. He says Miz and Morrison want to make his life a living hell. He will take care of them at Backlash. He is not in the mood for games with Otis tonight. If Otis and Tucker try something funny, they will have no problem obliterating some Heavy Machinery.

– We see the ring crew setting up for a celebration in the ring. Back to commercial.

– Back from the break and we see how Sasha Banks and SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley recently won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles.

In the Arena:

We go to the ring and out come Sasha Banks and Bayley for their big celebration. Cole hypes Banks and Bayley vs. The IIconics vs. Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross at WWE Backlash on Sunday.

The boos immediately start and Bayley isn’t happy. The crowd chants “you suck!” now and Bayley disagrees, bragging about how good she is and untouchable she is. Bayley says it can be lonely at the top but she has her best friend, Sasha. Banks also brags about their success and says they will only get stronger because together they are unstoppable.

The boos continue and Bayley tells Banks not to listen to these people. She wrote a poem to tell Banks exactly how she feels. Bayley goes to read her poem but the music interrupts and out comes Bliss and Cross. Bliss is cool with them celebrating their win but she has to draw a line at poetry. Bayley throws a fit over their moment being ruined. Cross taunts them as they enter the ring. The IIconics interrupt on the big screen next. Peyton Royce and Billie Kay, with the RAW logo in the background, taunt the others in the ring and. They suggest the champs not turn their backs on Cross and Bliss. Banks and Bayley turn around to an attack from Bliss and Cross. They clear the ring of Bayley and Banks as The IIconics look on from the big screen, laughing at everyone. Bliss’ music hits as Banks and Bayley yell at them from the floor.

– Kayla Braxton is backstage with John Morrison and The Miz last week. They joke about Braxton accidentally getting slimed last week. They go on and send us to their latest music video and version of the “Hey Hey” song. The music video is interrupted by WWE Universal Champion Braun Strowman making his way to the ring for tonight’s main event.

Braun Strowman and Heavy Machinery vs. The Miz, John Morrison and Dolph Ziggler

WWE Universal Champion Braun Strowman hits the ring to a pop for tonight’s six-man main event. Out next are his partners, Heavy Machinery. Tucker and Otis hit the ring and Otis is carrying his Money In the Bank briefcase. We go back to commercial.

Otis and Dolph start things off and then Dolph goes to the floor before locking up and tags in Miz. Otis brings Miz into the ring and Otis with a slam. Tucker tags in and they hit a double head butt. Tucker with a JYD head butt and Morrison tags in. Tucker blocks a kick and Morrison with a heel kick. Morrison with a waist lock into a side head lock. Morrison lands on his feet on a back body drop but Tucker catches Morrison on a springboard move and hits a power slam for a near fall. Morrison tags in Ziggler.

Ziggler with a waist lock and Tucker with a back elbow. Otis tags in and then Strowman tags in. Otis and Tucker with an Irish whip and Strowman is Irish whipped into Ziggler for a splash. Braun with a forearm across the chest. Tucker tags in and Tucker with a delayed vertical suplex but we see Baron Corbin on the TitanTron.

Baron walks over to Mandy who is shocked to see him. Otis runs to the back while Baron complains about Otis stretching out his crown. He asks if it was Mandy’s idea. Mandy says she was having fun. Baron says Mandy is fantasizing about being with a man with power. You are fantasizing about being with him.

Otis shows up and he attacks Baron as we go to commercial.

We are back and Morrison and Miz with kicks to Tucker followed by an elbow drop to Tucker for a near fall. Otis is still in the back so it is a three on two situation. Ziggler with a front face lock. Ziggelr pulls Tucker into the corner by the hair while Miz distracts the referee. Morrison tags in and he kicks and punches Tucker. Morrison with a kick to the leg and head. Morrison with an arm bar. Miz tags in and Tucker sends Morrison to the floor. Miz is sent to the floor when he tries a figure four leg lock. Ziggler makes the tag and Tucker with an enzuigiri.

Miz and Morrison pulls Strowman off the apron and Morrison with a round kick off the apron and Miz with a DDT on the floor. Ziggler sends Tucker into the turnbuckles. Otis and Mandy make their way back to the ring and Mandy stands on the ramp to distract Ziggler. Tucker with a kick and both men are down. Otis tags in and he knocks Miz and Morrison off the apron. Otis with body blocks to Ziggler and then he slams Miz and sends Morrison face first to the mat and then to the floor. Ziggler with punches and Otis jiggles up. Otis with a head butt and then he sends Ziggler over the top rope to the floor. Strowman boards Miz, Morrison, and Ziggler before sending Ziggler into the ring and Otis with a Caterpillar and elbow drop for the three count.

Winners: Braun Strowman and Heavy Machinery

After the match, Mandy hits the ring to celebrate with Strowman, Otis and Tucker. Otis kicks Ziggler out of the ring as the Heavy Machinery music hits. We go to replays. Strowman raises the Universal Title in the air while Otis raises his Money In the Bank briefcase. We see the heels down on the outside recovering. Otis, briefcase still in the air, glances over at Strowman and his title while the celebration continues. The final SmackDown before WWE Backlash goes off the air.
