The opening segment of RAW saw Vince McMahon promising a “RAW that we would never forget.”
Smackdown stars Roman Reigns, Daniel Bryan and Kofi Kingston appear with the storyline being that Bryan and Kingston were lured to Smackdown by Roman Reigns announcing over the weekend on Twitter he was returning to Raw to “take care of unfinished business.”
After Roman threatened McMahon during the segment that he would show up anytime and anywhere he wanted, McMahon, increasingly upset that Smackdown stars were on Raw, then decreed he was instituting a “Wild Card” rule that would allow three members of each brand to appear on the other brand when necessary. So, WWE just attempted to spice up the post-Superstar Shakeup WWE in response to the ratings last week by creating the possibility of top stars crossing over from show to show.
Before McMahon’s proclamation, Bryan, returning to WWE TV for the first time since Wrestlemania 35, claimed he had been in “solitude” since last month and had come to Raw to speak to McMahon about getting a title rematch. That brought out Kingston, who made it clear he came to Raw to have fun since Roman was coming to Raw, but was willing to fight.
The opening segment set up not only changed the makeup of the WWE landscape, but set the stage for tonight’s Raw main events, featuring Drew McIntyre vs. Roman Reigns and WWE Champion Kofi Kingston vs. Daniel Bryan in Wrestlemania 35 rematches.
