Roman Reigns revealed details on his leukemia on the latest episode of WWE Chronicle on Monday night.
Reigns noted that he found out there was an issue when WWE doctors informed him at a live event that something was going on with his blood tests. Later on, after another test, the doctors broke the news that his white blood cell count as obviously elevated. This is when they knew something was going on due to history with the disease.
He recalled not being able to move very much in the first few months into treatment and started training again once he “got his feet under” him again. This is where he revealed that he had CML Leukemia, which is chronic myeloid leukemia. They were able to catch it in the early stages and took a pill to treat it as it’s oral chemotherapy. He added that it does have its side effects but is better than taking radiation.
Reigns made it known that he wasn’t sure if he would come back to the WWE when he announced he’d be taking a hiatus to battle leukemia due to his age and how it’s hard to stay healthy on the road when he’s not fighting the illness.
Reigns would add that once he got the remission news then he called Vince McMahon where they started planning his return and traveled to the Performance Center in order to meet with doctors as well as take bumps.
