As previously reported, both Jerry “The King” Lawler and Amy “Lita” Dumas were removed the pre-show panels this week prior to RAW and SmackDown. While both WWE personalities are under legends deals now, they will no longer be working in those roles in the foreseeable future.
Regarding the decision to remove Lawler from weekly WWE programming, it’s believed that age played a major factor. Many felt for the longest time Lawler was just showing up and getting by on his name back when he worked as a RAW announcer. Once the company moved him from RAW to SmackDown, it was an eye-opener for Lawler and his announcing got better, however the company already had plans long before that he would be replaced after the brand split. Lawler was then moved to the pre-show shortly after his SmackDown removal. Many felt afterwards that Lawler’s end was nearing.
Both Lawler and Lita may be used for special appearances in the future, as WWE issued a statement claiming that Lawler would host the Hall of Fame next year. As of right now though, Lita is essentially gone from the company.
