Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio today that Cody Rhodes is still being held to his WWE contract; WWE is “kind of putting the screws to him”, and that since Rhodes quit, they are trying to make it hard for him contractually to do anything for another wrestling company. The departure was not amicable.
We noted earlier this year how Cody had been teasing the end of the Stardust character. There was a plan for the gimmick to be dropped and for Cody Rhodes to return, right around or right after WrestleMania 32, but the idea was nixed. Meltzer noted that Vince McMahon and Triple H, but mainly Vince, decided against the angle.
“Vince McMahon and Triple H – and it was more Vince McMahon on this one, from what I was told – they decided [that] we’re not going to do it,” Meltzer said.
