Saudi Flight Disruptions Escalate Ahead Of WWE Crown Jewel 2026 As Riyadh Air Relocates Key Routes

A major travel disruption has hit Saudi Arabia just under two weeks before WWE Crown Jewel 2026, with Riyadh Air temporarily moving several primary international routes away from the capital city’s main airport due to regional security concerns.

The airline confirmed that six key international and domestic routes have been rerouted to Al Qassim International Airport—located roughly 400 kilometers (250 miles) outside Riyadh—as King Khalid International Airport struggles with widespread flight cancellations following recent missile and drone security threats.

Multi-Hour Detours For Travelers Heading To Riyadh

The temporary operating schedule took effect on October 25 and directly impacts flights connecting Riyadh to major international hubs, including London Heathrow, Cairo, Dhaka, Lahore, Islamabad, and Jeddah.

To accommodate stranded travelers, the airline has implemented an extended ground transit protocol:

  • Hotel Check-In: Passengers departing from Riyadh must check in at a designated hotel facility inside the capital.
  • Coach Transit: Travelers are then transported to Al Qassim International Airport via complimentary shuttle buses.
  • Travel Delay: The ground commute between Riyadh and the alternative airport adds roughly four-and-a-half hours of travel time each way.

According to aviation reports, these temporary measures are slated to remain in place through at least November 8—one day after Crown Jewel is scheduled to take place.

Massive Flight Cancellations Fail To Stop Crown Jewel Setup

The logistics headache comes on the heels of staggering aviation data released by Cirium and Reuters, revealing that 86% of scheduled flights at King Khalid International Airport (4,071 out of 4,736) were canceled between October 8 and October 25.

Despite the severe travel disruptions and TKO executive Ari Emanuel confirming that leadership is monitoring regional safety daily, WWE has not altered its plans. Production crews are already on the ground, and set construction is actively underway at Riyadh Season Stadium for the November 7 event.
