Rey Fénix and Dragon Lee advanced in the No. 1 contender tournament on 8/17 WWE RAW, setting up a second-round match between the two high-flying stars. The winner will continue toward a championship opportunity against Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship in Mexico.
Fénix opened the tournament action against El Fiscal, with both wrestlers making their WWE RAW in-ring debuts. The match started with a physical exchange before Fiscal gained control by taking Fénix down and later hitting a dropkick and a top-rope crossbody.
Fénix answered with a springboard flipping cutter and continued to build momentum. The two wrestlers battled near the turnbuckle, where Fénix knocked Fiscal to the floor and followed with a rope-walking kick. He then connected with a springboard crossbody.
Fiscal regained control by lifting Fénix and dropping him across the ropes before following with a lariat. Fénix fought back with several kicks and an enzuigiri before connecting with a springboard attack. Fiscal caught him and attempted a piledriver, but Fénix escaped the move.
Fénix then delivered the Mexican Muscle Buster to secure the victory and advance to the next round.

Dragon Lee also advanced after defeating El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. in their first-ever singles match against each other. Lee started the contest by using a side headlock and attempting to take Wagner down with a shoulder tackle. Wagner responded by sending Lee to the mat.
Lee quickly recovered and hit a head scissors takedown before sending Wagner into the corner. He followed with a running knee and a Death Valley Driver. Wagner answered with two tilt-a-whirl backbreakers and then hit a rolling senton from the apron.
Lee countered by tripping Wagner in the corner and kicking him in the head. Wagner responded with a powerful kick that sent Lee crashing to the mat.
Lee regained control with a German suplex, followed by a shotei and DDT. He then went to the outside and connected with a tope suicida. Wagner attempted to use the top rope to his advantage, but Lee placed him in the Tree of Woe and delivered a double stomp to his chest.
Wagner later caught Lee during a headscissors attempt and threw him back into the ring before hitting a frog splash. He attempted the Wagner Driver, but Lee escaped. Wagner then connected with a superplex, only for Lee to counter the Wagner Driver once again.
Lee finished the match with Operation Dragon to earn the victory and move forward in the tournament.
Fénix and Lee will now face each other in the second round on next week’s WWE RAW. The winner will advance to the final stage and face the winner of the other second-round match between La Parka and Penta.
The tournament will determine the next challenger for Roman Reigns and the World Heavyweight Championship in Mexico.
