Brock Lesnar has stepped away from the ring before, but Paul Heyman doesn’t think this latest retirement is another false alarm. Weeks after Lesnar announced he was done competing, Heyman shared his thoughts on The Undertaker’s Six Feet Under podcast and made it clear he believes Lesnar truly means it.
Lesnar retired at 49 after losing to Oba Femi during night one of SummerSlam 2026. Heyman, who has been by Lesnar’s side for decades, said he’s reached a point where he accepts the decision. He explained that Lesnar has talked about retiring many times, but this time felt different. Heyman said, “Brock has always been a realist about himself, and it’s time.”
He added that Lesnar often meant it when he said he was done, but could be convinced otherwise as the end of a contract approached. This time, Heyman didn’t sense any hesitation. He said, “I knew that this was it. Because he knew that this was it… This decision was fait accompli.”
Heyman Reflects on Lesnar’s Final Run
SummerSlam closed out a three‑match series between Lesnar and Femi, with Femi winning twice and Lesnar passing the torch on his way out. After the event, Lesnar officially announced his retirement and said he plans to spend more time helping his children chase their own athletic goals.
The podcast also revealed a moment fans didn’t see. On the day of SummerSlam, Lesnar called The Undertaker using Heyman’s phone. Undertaker didn’t share the full conversation, but he described it as a meaningful moment between two men who shaped each other’s careers. He said, “I think he genuinely — I mean, he had to love this business… he understood, he gets it.”
Undertaker said the call reminded him how few wrestlers remain who understand the traditions of the business, calling it “sad” to see another one step away.
Whether Lesnar is truly finished will become clearer by WrestleMania 43 next April in Saudi Arabia. The event’s financial significance has often brought major names back into the fold. If Lesnar skips that show, it may confirm that his retirement is exactly what Heyman believes it is — final.
