The NXT Championship match at Heatwave didn’t stay a Triple Threat for long. Moments after the original announcement, the main event was officially expanded to a Fatal 4-Way when Zilla Fatu signed his contract and became an NXT Superstar during the closing segment of the August 18 episode.
The final scene of the show began with Robert Stone standing in the ring to introduce Fatu. Zilla immediately spotted Tony D’Angelo watching from the platform and acknowledged him before turning to the crowd. He greeted “NXT” and spoke about how meaningful the moment was, saying he never imagined he would be signing with WWE. Fatu told fans he intends to prove he isn’t just another second‑generation wrestler riding his family’s name. He said he wants his talent to speak for itself and admitted he upset a lot of people last Tuesday, telling them to get used to it.
How Zilla Fatu Ended Up in the Heatwave Title Match
Grayson Waller appeared on the entrance ramp, but security blocked him from reaching the ring. Cruz Montana showed up in the crowd and was also held back as more security rushed in. Stone tried to calm everyone down and revealed the key detail: Zilla’s contract includes a clause stating his first match in NXT will be for the NXT Championship.
Fatu confirmed the news, announcing that Heatwave will now feature a Fatal 4-Way for the title. He signed the contract as security kept Montana and Waller separated on the outside. Inside the ring, Zilla shouted at both challengers while Tony D’Angelo raised the NXT Championship. The show ended with all four men locked in a tense standoff.
NXT Heatwave takes place on August 30 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time from Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg, Texas.
