The August 18 episode of NXT delivered a chaotic segment that ended with a major championship announcement for Heatwave. What started as Grayson Waller running his mouth turned into a three‑way showdown for the NXT Title — and the road to August 30 just got a lot messier.
Waller opened the segment by declaring that he was taking over NXT. He then crossed a line with a remark about “another Samoan” taking food off his table, brushing it off by saying he’s Australian and has been fighting Samoans his whole life. Waller didn’t stop there, adding another questionable comment about Jacob Fatu “taking off the ankle bracelet.”
How the Heatwave Triple Threat Came Together
Tony D’Angelo eventually stepped in, saying he didn’t care who the number one contender was because he planned on beating anyone put in front of him. Cruz Montana then joined the scene, reminding everyone that he would have earned the title shot if Fatu hadn’t interfered in his match.
Montana pushed for a rematch with Waller and promised he’d deal with Fatu afterward. Before anything could escalate, Robert Stone sprinted down to the ring to make things “fair.” His solution was exactly what most fans expected — a Triple Threat match for the NXT Championship at Heatwave: Waller vs. Montana vs. D’Angelo.
The announcement came with a wink toward the unpredictability of NXT, as Stone insisted this was the final lineup. With contracts signed and the match officially set, the company is promoting it as the definitive championship bout for the event.
NXT Heatwave takes place on August 30 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time from Bert Ogden Arena, and the Triple Threat now stands as one of the show’s biggest attractions.
