Jacques Rougeau’s AEW Redemption appearance reportedly became a tense situation backstage before the legendary wrestler appeared in front of the Montreal crowd. While fans saw the Rougeau family being honored inside the Bell Centre, a reported disagreement behind the scenes nearly affected the segment.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the issue began with a tribute video Rougeau had personally prepared for the occasion. Rougeau reportedly told AEW that he would handle the video package himself and arrived with a finished version. However, the company was unable to air it due to several problems.
The reported issues included the length of the video, footage that AEW did not have the rights to use, music licensing concerns, and AI-generated material that the company did not want included.
“Jacques told AEW he’d take care of that. He gave them a video to play. Unfortunately, the video was too long, had footage that AEW didn’t have rights to, music that AEW didn’t have right to and some AI stuff in it that AEW didn’t want to use. There was no way it could be used and now it’s the day of the show with no time to do anything else, so there was no video.”

With no time available to create a replacement package, the tribute video was reportedly removed from the show plans. Meltzer stated that multiple sources claimed Rougeau reacted strongly after learning the video would not be part of the presentation.
“Multiple sources said Jacques was throwing a tantrum backstage over that. He was told by one AEW official to calm down or they’d have to kick him out.”
Despite the reported confrontation, Rougeau still appeared during the event. The Rougeau family tribute took place during the Redemption Buy-In and celebrated 80 years and four generations of wrestling history.
The segment was hosted by Matt Menard, while Raymond Rougeau thanked Tony Khan for the recognition. Jacques Rougeau also entertained the Montreal audience by returning to his famous villain persona, telling fans to kiss his ass after receiving boos from the crowd.
Later in the show, Rougeau became involved in the action when he dropped Rocky Romero during an interruption involving the Don Callis Family.
