Jon Moxley caused confusion earlier this week when he referenced the “Continental Cup” twice during a promo on Dynamite. Many fans wondered whether he misspoke about the annual Continental Classic or hinted at something new. On the July 30 live episode of Collision, AEW cleared everything up by announcing a brand‑new tournament that will conclude at next month’s All In: London.
AEW Continental Cup tournament
The new tournament begins next Saturday and will feature 16 men drawn at random. Moxley is confirmed for the field, and based on comments he made Thursday, it appears former ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness will also be involved. The full lineup will be revealed Monday on AEW’s YouTube channel by Tony Khan and Tony Schiavone.
The finals at Wembley Stadium will be for both the Continental Championship and the newly introduced Continental Cup. This marks the first time the Continental title will be defended in a tournament final, adding extra stakes to the All In weekend.
Moxley enters the tournament as the third Continental Champion in AEW history. Eddie Kingston held the title first, followed by Kazuchika Okada. Moxley won last year’s Continental Classic, defeating Okada in the finals at Worlds End to claim the belt. Since then, he has defended the championship seven times.
The introduction of the Continental Cup adds a new wrinkle to AEW’s summer schedule and gives All In another major attraction. With a 16‑man field, a random draw and the Continental title on the line, the tournament sets the stage for a high‑stakes showdown at Wembley Stadium.
