Road Dogg Teases Big Push for Rey Fenix – Rey Fenix has received a major vote of confidence from WWE SmackDown co-lead writer Brian “Road Dogg” James. The longtime WWE executive and Hall of Famer responded to Fenix’s recent comments on social media, suggesting that championship success is on the horizon for the high-flying star.
The exchange came after last Friday’s SmackDown, where Fenix answered Sami Zayn’s United States Championship open challenge. Though he did not capture the title, his strong showing drew praise from fans and WWE officials alike. After the match, Fenix took to X to reflect on the opportunity and his future goals.
“Last Friday I took the opportunity in the open challenge to face the United States Champion Sami Zayn. I didn’t win the match but it was a great match and I’m very happy with my work that night, soon I will be a @wwe Champion! I’m ready for the big challenges! #AN1M0,” he wrote.
James quickly responded with encouragement, writing simply: “Rey Fenix is right! Soon!” The endorsement has fueled speculation that Fenix may be in line for a significant push on SmackDown in the near future.
Fenix’s WWE run has been complicated in recent weeks. His tag team partner Andrade was released from the company due to disciplinary issues, leaving Fenix’s own trajectory somewhat uncertain. Fenix and his brother Penta officially signed with WWE earlier this year after finishing up with AEW, but because their contracts expired at different times, the duo has yet to reunite on television.
While WWE still plans for a tag team reunion down the line, the company appears to be testing Fenix as a singles competitor on the blue brand. With “Road Dogg” himself publicly backing him, fans may not have to wait long before Fenix secures championship gold in WWE.
