Brock Lesnar Destroys John Cena, Match for WrestlePalooza Official – The long-anticipated clash between John Cena and Brock Lesnar has been made official for WWE Wrestlepalooza on September 20. The announcement came during Friday’s episode of SmackDown from Chicago in dramatic fashion.
Cena opened the show facing new United States Champion Sami Zayn. Late in the match, Cena connected with a huge avalanche Attitude Adjustment off the middle rope. Both men were down when Brock Lesnar’s music hit, drawing a thunderous reaction from the crowd. Lesnar stormed to the ring, first targeting Zayn by pulling the referee out and planting him with an F5. He then turned his attention to Cena, delivering two devastating F5s before leaving him laid out in the ring.
Following the commercial break, cameras showed Lesnar backstage in the gorilla position. He looked directly into the camera and told Cena, “I’ll see you at Wrestlepalooza, bitch.” Moments later, WWE made the match official for September 20 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
This marks the first singles match between the two since 2014’s Night of Champions. Their last encounter in any capacity was the Triple Threat with Seth Rollins at the 2015 Royal Rumble. The rivalry reignited at SummerSlam in August when Lesnar made his surprise return after a two-year absence, attacking Cena following his WWE Title loss to Cody Rhodes.
In the weeks since, Cena’s attention had been divided, particularly after his clash with Logan Paul at Clash in Paris. On last week’s SmackDown, General Manager Nick Aldis hinted that Lesnar had reached out, but before he could reveal more, Paul blindsided Cena.
Now, the long-awaited battle between Cena and Lesnar is locked in for Wrestlepalooza, a showdown that will also serve as a key moment in Cena’s farewell tour.
