Brock Lesnar Signs New WWE Contract – Brock Lesnar’s return to WWE comes under a brand-new contract following his two-year absence from the ring. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Lesnar had quietly been a free agent for several months after his previous deal expired. While WWE continued paying him after he was pulled from television, that contract eventually ran out, leaving him unsigned until recently.
Dave Meltzer explained that WWE could not extend his prior deal in the way they’ve done with other talents, since Lesnar was not sidelined with an injury. Instead, the company had chosen not to use him during the period when his name surfaced in the Janel Grant lawsuit against Vince McMahon and WWE.
The ongoing lawsuit, filed in January 2024, alleged that McMahon sent explicit material of Grant to Lesnar and even offered sexual favors as an incentive for him to sign a contract in 2021. While Lesnar is not a defendant in the case, his name being included was enough for WWE to keep him off television until legal cleared his return.
Lesnar came back at SummerSlam in August, attacking John Cena after Cena had already lost the WWE Championship to Cody Rhodes. This was Lesnar’s first on-screen appearance in two years and marked the beginning of his limited-date schedule under the new agreement.
His in-ring return is now set to headline WWE WrestlePalooza on September 20 in Indianapolis, where he is expected to face John Cena in their first singles match in a decade. WWE has yet to make the bout official, though Lesnar is rumored to appear on SmackDown tonight, which could set up the formal announcement.
