Will Ospreay Set for Neck Surgery, Faces Extended Time Away from AEW – Will Ospreay is preparing for a lengthy absence from AEW as he undergoes neck surgery in the coming weeks. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Ospreay is scheduled to have the operation to repair multiple herniated discs, an issue that has been impacting him for more than a month. Recovery is expected to sideline him for a significant period.
Ospreay’s most recent AEW appearance came at the All In: Texas pay-per-view in July, where he was involved in a post-match angle. Despite his condition, the 31-year-old insisted on competing at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door in London on August 24. Speaking ahead of the show, he admitted that he was risking further damage but wanted to perform once more before stepping away.
“I am compromised, I’ve got a few herniated discs pushing against my spinal cord, which is affecting a couple of my nerves,” Ospreay explained. “But, I can do stuff and I can perform one last time before I need to go get it all corrected.”
His last bout before surgery took place in the main event of Forbidden Door, where he teamed with Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, and others in a brutal Lights Out Steel Cage match. The storyline exit came after the bout when Moxley and Castagnoli attacked Ospreay, writing him off television.
Ospreay, a two-time AEW International Champion, has been positioned as one of AEW’s biggest stars throughout 2025. His absence will leave a noticeable gap, but the expectation is that the surgery will ensure long-term stability for his career. His focus now turns to recovery and rehabilitation before eventually returning to action.
