Bully Ray Calls AEW a “Lost Product” – Bully Ray has shared his blunt thoughts on the state of AEW, saying the company has “lost” its way creatively despite having plenty of talent to work with.
This week’s AEW Dynamite was held at the historic 2300 Arena in Philadelphia as part of the promotion’s ongoing residency there. While the show had its high points, the numbers told a different story. Dynamite drew just 472,000 viewers, marking a new record-low for its regular Wednesday 8 p.m. timeslot. It still finished as the seventh-best cable show of the night, but the figure raised eyebrows given the recent momentum AEW had built with large-scale events.
Bully Ray took to Twitter with his assessment, writing: “Unfortunate, but… AEW, as a product, is lost. There’s certainly some bright spots (talent) – but as a company, lacks definitive direction. Is what it is. A company owned and operated by a fan with lots of $$ TK – Good guy, good heart, not a booker. And ‘the boys’ know it.”
His remarks sparked debate among fans. Some pointed out that AEW has shown its drawing power with more than 20,000 in attendance for Forbidden Door: London and nearly 30,000 for All In: Texas. Others sided with Bully Ray, agreeing that the weekly television product has been missing compelling storylines.
Ricochet, one of AEW’s top stars, strongly pushed back against Bully Ray’s take. Responding directly, he said: “100% disagree with you,” and criticized Bully for saying that “the boys” know AEW is lacking. Ricochet labeled the comment ignorant, adding that Bully was simply bashing a product he doesn’t enjoy, similar to much of the online wrestling community. He went further, saying that he doesn’t believe the criticism is coming from a fair place: “I know when someone is purposely being a dick for likes.”
The back-and-forth highlights the divide among fans and wrestlers regarding AEW’s direction. While live event attendance numbers suggest strong fan interest, weekly TV ratings and ongoing creative critiques have created a narrative that AEW is still struggling to find its footing on a consistent basis.
