Will Ospreay Reveals Serious Neck Injuries, Targets Return at Forbidden Door – As previously reported, Will Ospreay was expected to take time off from AEW following his grueling performance at All In: Texas. That speculation was confirmed during the July 23 episode of AEW Dynamite, where Ospreay addressed his injury status in an in-ring interview with Tony Schiavone.
Ospreay revealed that he’s been dealing with ongoing pain but pushed through it to honor commitments he made—not just to AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland and Hangman Page, but to the AEW fanbase. He said he chose to keep his condition private in order to help “get AEW over the finish line” and bring the AEW World Title back to the company.
During the segment, Ospreay disclosed that he’s suffering from two herniated discs—specifically in his C2 and C6 vertebrae—which are pressing into his spinal cord. Despite the seriousness of the condition, Ospreay is optimistic that with proper treatment, he could be cleared in time for AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door on August 25.
The announcement adds context to Ospreay’s absence following the chaotic Texas Deathmatch at All In, where he interfered in the bout between Hangman Page and Jon Moxley, helping Page win the AEW World Title. After the match, Ospreay was brutally attacked by The Death Riders—Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, and Gabe Kidd—who wrapped a steel chair around his neck and stomped it, writing him off television.
Now, Ospreay has made it clear that when he returns, his sights are set on revenge. “Eye for an eye,” he warned, promising to go after The Death Riders once he’s cleared.
AEW has yet to provide a medical update or confirm whether Ospreay will be available for Forbidden Door, but his determined promo suggests he’s doing everything possible to make it back in time.
