Glacier Reflects on AEW Role, Confirms Coaching Position and Journey to Joining the Company

Glacier Reflects on AEW Role, Confirms Coaching Position and Journey to Joining the Company – After months of limited updates, former WCW star Glacier—real name Ray Lloyd—has officially confirmed his position with All Elite Wrestling as a coach and producer. Lloyd opened up about his journey during a recent episode of AEW Unrestricted, detailing how the opportunity came together and how much the role means to him.

Back in June 2024, it was initially reported that AEW had brought in Glacier to work behind the scenes. However, there had been little follow-up until Lloyd personally addressed the situation on the podcast.

“Of course, Q.T. [Marshall] and I, we talk all the time,” Lloyd said. “I go back and forth to help out with the camps and stuff as much as I could, and it just came a point where the conversation started to where I said, ‘If there’s ever an opening for a coaching position, you know how much I love coaching and teaching and mentoring.’”

Lloyd explained that things progressed once he connected with longtime friend Sonjay Dutt, who helped move the process along.

“Sonjay and I have been friends for about 20 years,” he added. “We started talking and put the wheels in motion, and actually, AEW has been so great to me on so many levels. It worked out where I was able to finish up the school year, and then I came on board right afterward. Like a week later, last June, and so it’s been about a year for me.”

Now a full-time coach and producer in AEW, Lloyd expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to stay involved in professional wrestling.

“I don’t know if I can put it into words how much I absolutely love going to work and doing this,” he said. “I love being around wrestling, I love being around the next generation, and anything that I can do to help in any way, I’m gladly willing to do so. It’s a great environment.”

Reflecting on his past and his current role, Lloyd added: “Years ago, I didn’t know if I would be in wrestling again, especially at this level… I’m a very, very fortunate person and I don’t take it for granted at all. I really, really relish this time I have and this opportunity. I’m just trying to give as much as I can to the company and everybody and just bring as much value as I can—and then enjoy the ride on the way personally.”

Lloyd debuted as Glacier in WCW in 1996 and became known for his martial arts-inspired character and theatrical presentation. Now in a behind-the-scenes role, he’s helping shape AEW’s future by guiding the next generation of talent.
