Acting on behalf of the champion, James announced that the rematch would take place on the August 1st episode of SmackDown, confirming the long-awaited bout.
This marked James’ first official on-screen role since recovering from injury. She quietly returned to in-ring action during WWE Main Event tapings held prior to the July 18 edition of SmackDown, and sharp-eyed fans also spotted her in the background of that night’s episode. Her reappearance on July 25 now confirms her full return to the main roster spotlight.
James had been sidelined since June 2024 after revealing she was dealing with a leg injury. In April, she confirmed she was undergoing rehab, and updates on her recovery had been limited until this recent string of appearances.
Now back in the fold, James appears to be aligning herself with one of WWE’s most dominant women’s champions in Giulia. Her new position could indicate a managerial or enforcer role moving forward, but for now, her immediate priority is helping Giulia retain the gold against Vega next week.
