Update on Whether Seth Rollins’ Knee Injury Is a Work – According to Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer, Seth Rollins’ knee injury during WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event over the weekend was not legitimate, but rather a carefully planned work. Alvarez reported that multiple sources confirmed the injury angle was staged, with both talent and production staff reportedly being kept in the dark to help sell its authenticity.
Dave Meltzer also backed the report, noting that the injury was indeed a work. This version of events lines up with what John Pollock of Post Wrestling reported last week, suggesting WWE had already laid the groundwork for the storyline.
Alvarez mentioned that one source acknowledged Rollins had been dealing with a minor knee issue prior to the event, adding a layer of realism to the angle. However, the issue was not considered serious enough to sideline him for any significant period.
The angle played out during Rollins’ match against LA Knight at the SNME show. Rollins appeared to tweak his knee mid-match, prompting concern from the referee, ringside medical staff, and Paul Heyman, who was at ringside. Shortly after the incident, Knight scored the pinfall victory, leading some to believe the injury might have been used to cover a potential Money in the Bank cash-in later in the show.
Alvarez added that the intention behind the angle is to give fans the impression Rollins will be out for a long stretch, setting up a dramatic return for a surprise cash-in. Rollins currently holds the Money in the Bank contract and has teased cashing in on World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER or Goldberg.
Despite the injury being part of a possible storyline, Rollins did speak about it publicly on The Rich Eisen Show this past Wednesday. He claimed there had been no official diagnosis yet due to swelling and that he expected to miss significant time. He also stated he would undergo further evaluation in Los Angeles within the next couple of weeks.
Rollins’ comments appear to be part of the ongoing angle, further fueling speculation and adding credibility to the work. With WWE continuing to blur the lines between reality and storyline, fans will now be watching closely for when and how the Architect strikes with his Money in the Bank briefcase.
