Red Velvet Reportedly Sidelined With Neck Injury – ROH Women’s TV Champion Red Velvet is currently out of action due to an injury, and new information has surfaced about when and how it occurred. Velvet was pulled from Supercard of Honor on short notice after being declared medically unable to compete, leading to the crowning of an interim champion.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Velvet sustained a neck injury during her match against Kira at the AEW/NJPW/CMLL joint event on June 22. While the exact severity of the injury remains unknown, Velvet’s removal from the card and the creation of an interim title suggest her absence could be longer-term. However, no official timeline has been announced by AEW or ROH.
Velvet had been scheduled to defend her ROH Women’s Television Championship at Supercard of Honor, but due to her medical disqualification, the match was modified. An interim title bout was held during Friday’s broadcast, where Mina Shirakawa emerged victorious, becoming the first-ever interim ROH Women’s TV Champion.
The decision to move forward with an interim title, rather than vacate the championship, indicates that the company is hopeful Velvet will return and resume her reign. Once medically cleared, she is expected to face Shirakawa in a unification match to determine the undisputed champion.
This injury is a setback for Velvet, who captured the ROH Women’s TV Title earlier this year and had been gaining momentum within the promotion. With ROH continuing to build its women’s division, the eventual match between Velvet and Shirakawa could be a major spotlight bout when the time comes.
Until more is confirmed about Velvet’s condition, Shirakawa will carry the interim title and represent the division. AEW and ROH have not yet issued an official update on Velvet’s recovery status.
