Update on SmackDown’s Return to Two-Hour Format

Update on SmackDown’s Return to Two-Hour Format – WWE’s three-hour version of SmackDown is a temporary measure and is expected to end in early June, with the weekly show reverting back to its traditional two-hour runtime.

The change, initially implemented in January, was never intended to be permanent. WrestleVotes first reported that WWE would revert SmackDown to two hours after six months, with the target date now expected to be June 6th.

This report was further addressed on a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, where Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer discussed the anticipated shift. Alvarez asked, “Hey, by the way, is it true? Like, what is it June 6?”

Meltzer responded, “I don’t have that confirmed, but it’s going to be right around that time. Yes.”

Alvarez followed up by clarifying, “The move back to two hours,” to which Meltzer added, “I’ve asked around, and no one has gotten back to me, but, you know, I was told months ago that it’s essentially the end of May, when it’s going to happen. So it’s going to be one of those weeks right around then. Yeah, so we got about… I guess a little over a month, right? We’re right at a month of SmackDowns before they go back to two, which, you know, is going to be better for a lot of reasons.”

While WWE has not yet confirmed the date publicly, all indications suggest the three-hour experiment is nearing its end. Fans and insiders alike expect the change to be a positive one for pacing and overall viewer experience.
