WWE Crown Jewel 2024 Pre-Show Notes

  • Gunther was interviewed by Joe Tessitore earlier in the week.

Joe asks about the King of the Ring match with Randy Orton.  He says Randy was a big challenge and he talks about Randy’s pedigree.  He says if he beat Randy it would change his career.  Gunther says he is a bit ahead of Cody.  Joe asks what makes Cody a different kind of challenge.  Cody comes with the support of everybody.  He says it would benefit the company if their poster boy wins instead of the person doing his own thing.  He is asked if he is using that for motivation and he says that is what he does.  Gunther says when Cody wakes up after being choked out, Cody will realize he is the secondary champion.

Joe asks how much Gunther wants to hold that title belt.  He says it is materialistic but it will allow him to say he is the number one champion in the company.  Joe asks how is he better now than when he was the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion.  Gunther says he has been able to outclass everyone he stands in the ring with over the last month.
  • Cathy Kelley stops Seth Rollins to ask him about the match with Bronson Reed.  She asks how Seth feels.  He says he is not 100 percent, but has that stopped him before?  He says he is ready to fight.  This fight is a big test.  He says this is one of the biggest tests of his career.  It isn’t about slaying this monster, it is about who he is and what he has left in the tank.  Seth says he has his eyes on big things.  Is he the Seth Rollins who is ready for another run at the World Championship?
  • Cathy Kelley is with Kevin Owens and she asks him how is he feeling.  Kevin thanks Cathy for pointing out that he was silenced.  Kevin says that WWE had a number of activities and Kevin says he was in a dune buggy accident.  He says the driver was paid off by Cody or Randy.  He says everyone is against him.  Since he attacked the Golden Boy . . . he deserved it.  He is being forced to fight his friend.  He loved Randy Orton.  Tonight, he will make Randy feel worse than Kevin did coming out of that dune buggy.  He apologizes to Cathy for being collateral damage.  He says this is all Randy’s fault.
  • Paul Levesque was interviewed yesterday.  He is asked about this being the 12th WWE event in Saudi Arabia and the partnership and the effect on WWE.  He says this stemmed from the vision to bring the best entertainment from around the world.  People didn’t know what to expect at first but it has grown.  They went from asking if they could bring women to work the shows to them being put on the billboards and having more women added to the show.  He is asked about the WWE Experience and Riyadh being the home for the exhibit.  The Saudi Arabian government wanted it to be a permanent facility.  He says Riyadh is the perfect place to host this.  It can be a focal point of Riyadh Season.

He is asked about the Crown Jewel Championship matches.  He says when he grew up, there were champions in different organizations and people would say ‘what if’.  There is no better place than Saudi Arabia to do best of the best.  It had to be the most elaborate championship.  The championships will stay in Saudi Arabia so people can see the belts and the history.  Paul says they never look at what they have done, they look at what they can do better.  They are looking at how to make the next one bigger.  They try to over deliver every time they come to Saudi Arabia and that when they leave, people feel they saw the greatest show they could see and that it will be better next time.

Paul is asked if WWE is here to stay in Saudi Arabia and he says yes.
  • Cathy Kelley interviewed Cody Rhodes earlier this week. She asks how Cody feels after being champion for seven months.  He says he is the happiest he has ever been professionally.  There is a bit of leadership because he felt in the past when he had a leadership role, he failed.  He knows why he might have failed in the past.  Cathy asks if Cody was able to spend the time he wanted with his daughter.  He says he is more willing to do more work because of his family.  He always wishes that his two girls never have to want because Brandi is ride or die.  Cody says when you have the fever you want it.  Cathy asks about teaming with Roman at Bad Blood.  He says he liked it didn’t turn into a ‘can they co-exist’ thing.  She asks about the Rock’s appearance after the match.  Cody says it means that he can show up at any time and you have to follow him.

Cathy asks about Gunther.  Cody says he wants this match so much.  No one, on paper, looks better than Gunther.  He knows what Gunther did in WxW and NXT and he has bested Gunther in the two Royal Rumbles.  Cody is asked to respond to Gunther’s comments about being a secondary champion.  Cody says that Gunther can’t get to him with his comments.  Cody says if he loses at Crown Jewel, who main events Wrestlemania?  Which title does the Rumble winner want?  You don’t want to be ‘that champion’.
  • Cathy is with Nia Jax.  She asks about all of the variables beyond Liv tonight.  Nia says she feels great.  Everyone is obsessed with her.  She will squash Liv, Raquel, and Dom.  She is not worried about Tiffy because it isn’t her time so she will sit back and watch.  Nia asks if this interview is over because she is busy, and she leaves.
  • Cathy is with LA Knight.  Knight says it is a big weekend for him.  He did not celebrate his birthday.  He was in the gym training and trying to figure out how he would win.  He must have gotten to Nick after what happened in Match seven.  Triple Threat changes the mix because he has no advantage.  He says the odds are stacked against him and they have been his entire career.

Yeah, that belt is easily twice as big as Cody’s other belt.

WWE Crown Jewel 2024 Preview

For the second time this year, WWE returns to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, this time for the Crown Jewel premium live event in Riyadh. Unlike most of WWE PLEs this year, Crown Jewel boasts an elevated seven-match card, with multiple non-title faceoffs as well as the coronation of the first-ever WWE Crown Jewel Champions.

Falling into the non-title category are a pair of singles matches and an intense six-man tag that has big implications for the future of The Bloodline. Firstly, Seth Rollins and Bronson Reed will continue their intense feud with their first sanctioned affair. Reed previously put Rollins on the shelf with a half-dozen Tsunamis, after which Rollins retaliated by costing Reed a Last Man Standing match. Now, the two look to settle the score at Crown Jewel.

Elsewhere, Kevin Owens will take on “The Viper” Randy Orton, just weeks after the former betrayed Orton and Cody Rhodes with vicious attacks. Owens was evidently not happy about Rhodes teaming with their sworn-enemy Roman Reigns at WWE Bad Blood — something that Orton also seemed to be okay with. Coming out of Bad Blood, Reigns now pivots to a six-man tag match that will pit him, Jimmy Uso, and Jey Uso (original Bloodline members) against three members of the new Bloodline faction (Solo Sikoa, Jacob Fatu, Tama Tonga, and Tonga Loa). There is no word on which three of the Sikoa-led Bloodline iteration will officially step up here.

While Reigns tackles tag action, Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes will face WWE World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER in historic fashion as the winner of this match will be awarded with the first ever WWE Crown Jewel Championship. Similarly, WWE Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan battles WWE Women’s Champion Nia Jax, with the WWE Women’s Crown Jewel Championship up for grabs.

Rounding out Crown Jewel is a pair of multi-person title contests, one of which will see LA Knight defend the United States Championship against Carmelo Hayes and Andrade. The other will involve Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair putting their WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships on the line against Damage CTRL (IYO SKY & Kairi Sane), Chelsea Green and Piper Niven, and Meta-Four (Jakara Jackson and Lash Legend) of “WWE NXT.” The latter team will simultaneously mark their main roster premium live event debut.
