Major Update on Ricky Starks' Absence from AEW

Major Update on Ricky Starks’ Absence from AEW – Ricky Starks has been notably absent from AEW TV recently, sparking various rumors and discussions. Initially, a Reddit post circulated suggesting he had legal issues in Calgary last year and had declined creative ideas from AEW. However, this post was later deleted, though it had already spread widely online.

Fightful Select confirmed that Starks had indeed turned down some storyline ideas, including a proposed breakup and feud with Big Bill. However, claims that he outright rejected all pitches were not substantiated by sources. Some within AEW reportedly criticized Starks for not being cooperative, particularly in relation to storylines aimed at boosting both his and Big Bill’s careers. Starks apparently felt that Big Bill losing to him wouldn’t benefit either wrestler and preferred an amicable split, echoing details from the original Reddit post.

Last year, during a period when Starks was not booked for All In, AEW ran a suspension storyline to manage fan reactions. Starks was said to be unhappy with the direction of his booking, particularly following CM Punk’s departure, which he felt slowed his momentum. He was medically cleared to compete but reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with AEW’s handling of his career.

Regarding the Calgary incident rumors, many AEW sources denied knowledge of it, and AEW did not officially comment. Starks himself stated he was never in legal trouble in Canada, and those alleged to be involved also denied any such incident. Local authorities were contacted by Fightful but did not provide information.

There is speculation that Starks may have interest in moving to WWE, though details about his current contract status with AEW are unclear. Despite internal inconsistencies about his situation within AEW, there are currently no immediate creative plans for him, though this could change in the future.

In May, Starks clarified that he was not injured and his absence from AEW was not his decision.
