Details on Mercedes Mone Signing with AEWMercedes Mone’s official signing with AEW and her debut on AEW Dynamite: Big Business on March 13 marked a significant moment in her wrestling journey. Additional insights provided by Fightful Select shed light on the behind-the-scenes details of Moné’s transition to AEW.

According to sources, Moné has been a part of AEW’s roster for “well over two months,” suggesting meticulous planning and preparation leading up to her debut. While the specifics of her contract remain undisclosed, it is believed to be a multi-year deal, although confirmation is pending.

Interestingly, New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) anticipates its involvement in the agreement, with hopes that Mone will continue her endeavors there following a hiatus due to a severe ankle injury in 2023. This injury necessitated extensive recovery, including two surgeries and a grueling 10-month rehabilitation process.

Throughout negotiations, it was evident that Mone’s return to the ring was a priority. Despite uncertainties surrounding the severity of her injury, AEW expressed interest in collaborating with her, dating back to her appearance at AEW All In London, even before her full recovery.

Notably, Tony Khan, the head of AEW, was adamant about Mone avoiding public appearances in a compromised state, such as wearing a walking boot or using crutches, as it would signal her inability to compete in the ring.

While Moné engaged in “friendly” discussions with WWE towards the end of 2023, disparities in terms led to an amicable parting of ways. Her absence from WWE RAW Day 1 and Royal Rumble further solidified her transition to AEW.

Though January 3 and 10 were initially considered as potential debut dates for Moné in AEW, her physical clearance was pending at that time. Additionally, speculation regarding her appearance at Battle in the Valley against Giulia was refuted by NJPW sources, emphasizing their intent to feature her at Wrestle Kingdom if she had been cleared for competition.
